This set is of such low quality that I had to warn others. The clear coat is so thin on the painted checker/chess board that it scratches extremely easily; yet, in some places the clear coat is globbed on in drops so big they hinder sliding pawn forward. AND!!! ...the set has no rooks. Instead you get four quite obvious queens from a similar but smaller mold-set to use as rooks. So, in other words, both colors have one normal queen and two small queens of about rook height rather than actual rooks. They look so much alike from a players view that they affect game play seriously. THE CHESS PIECES DO NOT MATCH THE PICTURES IN THE ADD OR THOSE ON THE BOX -- you get two tall queens, four short queens, and no rooks. I finally trimmed the tops of the small queens flat with a razor/utility knife and they look more like rooks now but the set is honestly just a mess. Not recommended except for a small child although a child truly deserves more durability, a better board, and real rooks. Therefore, its even tough to recommend for a child. Keep shopping!

Just got it and already took it to the beach. Worked out perfectly, it is exactly the right size, small enough to travel with, yet big enough to enjoy a comfortable game. Chess, checkers and backgammon all came in perfect working order.

I received this order very much on time. It was carefully packed and I love having 3 games in 1, it's magnetic and perfect size for traveling too. I will not hesitate to order from this seller again.

We got this as a gift off the registry. I was looking for a board i could take on road trips.
Pros: 3 games in 1, the size of the board is portable and big enough to be usable, the pieces hold well yet not too firm, so my 5 year old can move them easily. I gave it 5 stars for educational value, though it is not because of this set, but because it is chess and I think it is one of the best games ever invented.

Cons: the board does not lock when folded and opens up easily. So, it is rather cheaply made. I wont be returning it, since I dont want to wait any longer and it is usable.
The board and pieces are plastic, but they are not horrible. Board is laminated with metal, i suspect it might scratch easily, as i see couple small scratches on the inside. Rooks do look a lot like the queen, but they are different enough (shorter, no crown dents), so for me they are ok. My son can tell them apart with no problems. He is 5. So, I think confusion is not an issue here.
Basically, I did not have v. high expectations from the set, but the functionality it is offering is what i was looking for. That is, in terms of size and pieces sticking reasonably well to the board. I have a large hair band around it to keep it locked. :) oh, well. It was [...]$ after all.
I just want to be able play chess everywhere we go.
