5.0 out of 5 stars ENSLAVED + FE-MAIL = Love it, September 19, 2008
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Travel Now Journey Infinitely (Dig) (Audio CD)
I am a big fan of Enslaved, and I'll say that this is a MUST-HAVE for fans of Enslaved. I am not familiar with FE-MAIL. This music sounds similar to Enslaved music (the vocals and guitar sound similar)to me, but with more noise and repetition. The songs are structured differently from the usual Enslaved songs. The noise elements and the addition of "femail" vocals in the last song adds variety, depth, and makes the music somehow more emotional.

Trinacria is a unique and unlikely combination of Enslaved and FE-MAIL (a noise band) and some others:
Ivar Bjørnson [Guitar]- from Enslaved
Maja S. K. Ratkje [Voice and Electronics]- from FE-MAIL
Arve "Ice Dale" Isdal [Guitar] - from Enslaved
Iver Sandøy [Drums]- from Emmerhoff
Hild S. Tafjord [Horn and Electronics]- from FE-MAIL
Espen Lien [Bass]
Grutle Kjellson [Vocal]- from Enslaved

The song lengths are as follows:
Part I: Turn-Away 9:14
Part II: The Silence 7:40
Part III: Make no Mistake 6:20
Part IV: Endless Roads 10:00
Part V: Breach 4:37
Part VI: Travel Now Journey Infinitely 9:23
for a total of over 47 minutes.

"Trinacria" is another name for the island of Sicily, and is also the symbol on the Sicily flag (head with 3 legs). I don't see any connection between this band and its music or artwork to Sicily or Sicily's trinacria symbol.

I like this album a lot and hope that this group collaborates for more albums in the future. (but don't stop the work with Enslaved, please, guys!)

3.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Side Project for Enslaved Fans, January 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Travel Now Journey Infinitely (Dig) (Audio CD)
Trinacria is an experimental black metal side project composed of Enslaved's creative core, Grutle Kjellson and Ivar Bjørnson, collaborating with Maja Ratkje and Hild Sofie Tafjold, members of the noise band Fe-mail.
The album features a sound that Blut Aus Nord fans will surely find familiar: experimental black metal that relies heavily on programmed percussion and alternates between speed and spacey mid tempos, with simple riffs and noisy squeals both sharing the spotlight and a smattering of slight nods to post metal here and there.
The album is divided into six parts, with "Part III: Make No Mistake" being the best track for showing the project's overall strengths, since it features the strongest black metal elements with Grutle's vocals reigning above dissonant riffing and noisy synth samples, while "Part VI: Travel Now Journey Infinitely" is the one that sounds closest to Enslaved's work.
The end results makes for an interesting listen for Enslaved fans, although in overall quality, nothing here really compares to that band's progressive genius, since it simply doesn't feel as developed as the band's core work, a problem that plagues most side projects, regardless of genre.
Ultimately, this experimental black metal/noise hybrid may not be as interesting or impressive as Blut Aus Nord's work, but it can be an appealing option to Enslaved fans or those interested on exploring black metal's more experimental side.
