This book was my bible when traveling around China. I was going to use Lonely Planet, but it wasn't much of a help in planning my trip. Travel for dummies wasn't just a book that I had to plop into the middle of Chgina with, rather I went into China knowing already where and how I was going to go across the country. Even with language difficulties I made it! Mr. Vadnai should be given a raise and asked to write some more!

Even though I spend a lot of time on the Net and I am very good at searching the Web, this book has proven useful whenever I want to find out something travel related. I use it mostly as a quick reference to keep track of URLs and sites. The directory section is my favorite part because I can flip through and find a bunch of sites that have the type of info I'm looking for. The author knows his stuff, but I do sometimes find the numbered lists a bit annoying, but those are in all For Dummies books, so I guess its not his fault.

This book manages to unravel what would normally be a mind boggling endeavor. It manages to guide you through every conceivable travel need you might have in a very understandable and usable fashion. More than just being my own travel agent, I can now feel confident that I can use the net as a safety net for any circumstance that may arise whether it occurrs before or after I start my trip. I use this book to cover all the bases of travel (from my home base or from anywhere I have access to a computer). More vital to pack this than even your contraceptives.

Although I did learn a couple of new tricks (Flight Tracker in TheTrip.com) I was disappointed I didn't find anything new to save me money that I wasn't already using from reading magazine articles. The car rental information was severely lacking in this book. This is a very mysterious part of the travel industry, with prices jumping $100 a day. I would have liked more insight into why this happens and what the strategies are for getting good rates. Car rental discount codes are not even discussed.

I found 'Travel Planning Online' to be outstanding in illuminating what can be an overwhelming topic. The guide simplifies and helps you through the massive amount of information available, making it possible for everyone to find the best rates, destinations, and advice on travel without frustration or information overload. The author's language is clear, concise, and human and the topics are well thought out, making it easy to get the most out of what is out there. The best sites are identified and common fallacies and questions are addressed. The ideas, explanations, and suggestions are excellent. This book will maximize your ability to be your own travel agent and feel confident that you're getting the best deals and the best advice available (it may also make you laugh). For anyone interested in, confused by, or already involved in travel planning online, this is a necessity. Travel planning on the web can be overwhelming or confusing, but it is THE way to find the best information, rates, and resources and this guide is the only way to navigate through the maze of information. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up, you'll be glad you did.

I can't sing the praises of this book enough!! It truly helped me to save money and make my trip to Europe and North Africa one of the smoothest planned trips ever! It really is a great time-saving tool that makes planning a trip anywhere in the world as easy as turning on the computer. For anyone planning a major or minor trip this book will save you time, money and the aggravation of dealing with travel 'professionals'.
