We bought this hand held scale to verify that we were not transporting bags over the weight limit of some airlines. To do so would mean to incur hefty fees. It is firmly built and transports easily. It can require considerable strength to hold up the scales with a 50 pound bag dangling on the hook. The scale can handle it easily but the person(s) using it may be a different problem. However, using a scale is important since flying with some airlines can be a pricy proposition if you exceed bag weight limits.
