A Good option for traveling or for use in your office,

I am a bit surprised that the Memorex Travel Speaker and iPod Dock is not more popular. It is reasonably priced (as far as iPod docks go), is portable (roughly the size of a paperback book), ad offers fair sound quality. Some have complained about the volume sensitivity, but that was never a problem for me. Here is my run down Pros - Reasonably priced for an iPod Dock - Has a line-in input which allows for the play-back of all music sources that have a headphone out - Will charge your iPod - Will work with your iPhone (Although it must be in Airplane Mode) - Works all iPods...Touch... Classics... shuffles (using the line-in input). - Roughly the size of a paperback novel - Will use batteries in addition to an AC power supply - Has a blue clock display (not much of a positive - it is too small and hard to see). Cons - Sound quality is only fair - the unit is unable to deliver bass below about 100Hz. Admittedly, this is not unexpected "small and portable" and "deep bass" are basically mutually exclusive. - Would be nice if had a remote control - Rechargeable batteries would be a nice feature - Does not offer a display for the song that is displaying (pretty minor flaw....if it really is a flaw) - Requires your iPhone to be placed on Airplane Mode (again, not a big deal) Final Verdict - While it is not as popular to me it is a much better option that the Livespeakr Ultra-Portable Speaker System for iPod/iPhone (White). The Livespeakr Ultra-Portable Speaker System for iPod/iPhone (White) is smaller and offers rechargeable batteries, but it has significantly worse sound quality (Slightly better than a transistor radio). However, if you are planning to use the Memorex Travel Speaker as a stand alone speaker for a room - I would suggest that you invest a few more $$$ and look at Altec Lansing T612 Digital Speaker for iPod and iPhone (Black) or my personal favorite the Altec Lansing inMotion MIX iMT800 Portable Digital Boom Box for iPhone and iPod (which has GREAT sound - but will never be mistaken for being "Portable"). 4 1/2 stars

Not bad...,
This review is from: Travel Speaker System for iPod with carrying case (White) (Electronics)
I bought this because I coulnd't afford the $100+ price tag on EVERY OTHER SPEAKER/DOC for the iPod!!! I really don't understand how they get away with charging what they do for these accessories and speakers?!?! Anyway,
PROS: this little deal sounds pretty good for it's small size. Charges the iPod. Has little case, not very protective but will keep dust out. Speaker(s)can lie flat or flip up to direct sound better. CONS: cannot play iPhone(didn't see item desc and I don't own one but wife does and it won't play it). Cannot control volume on iPod once hooked up. The volume control moves in large increments, sometimes a little too loud or to low for room but can't fine tune level.

I wanted to say that it does work with the iPhone, I have mine playing right now. I took my iPhone into a store to try this travel player. When I put my iPhone in the display set of this unit I got a message saying it wasn't compatible with the iPhone and did I want to use airplane mode? I chose no I didn't want airplane mode and it started to play my playlist from my iPhone anyway! I just checked it by calling it, and since I don't have it on airplane mode, a call still gets routed to the phone and interrupts my music which is fine with me.
To resolve the volume problem, I adjusted the volume up on my iPhone and then when reducing the volume on the speakers, I was able to modulate it better. It's not perfect, but it holds my iPod and iPhone, it's portable and looks nice on my desk. I'm sure it's not the sound quality of some others out there but I didn't want to spend a ton of money. I have kids, things get broken, I'll be carrying it back and forth to work, so this works for me.

Not a bad speaker. But the volume controls leave a lot to be desired. Say if there were ten levels, it would go from 1 to 2 to 5....nothing in between. So you either can't hear it well, or you blast those around you.
I returned it. And I would not recommend it.

I bought this unit and it lasted about a year before the volume + and - buttons became inoperative. Other than that, my one big pet peeve with this system is that the volume goes up or down on a set scale. I learned the hard way that it is better to have a dial that you can manually adjust. I noticed that three bars was not loud enough to listen to at night, but making it four bars was too loud and others in my home could hear it. So, it was a good unit for listening to during the day time. For the price, it depends what you want to use it for. Don't expect it to stand up to the test of time however. I give it three stars because, hey, everyone uses a device in different settings and for different things.

Does work with iPhone 4, surprisingly,

I bought this speaker dock on sale at Target for $40 and am pleasantly surprised by how well it works.
Pros: - Powered by either AC adapter or batteries. It's nice to have both options. - Sleek and attractive. - Charges the iPhone. - Volume can be turned up pretty loud. - Carrying case is convenient to have. - Line In jack allows any other smart phone or device to use the speakers. - Price. Totally affordable compared to other speaker docks. Cons: - Takes some tweaking to make the iPhone configure to it. - Sound isn't quite crisp. - Doesn't come with a Line In cable. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs a sleek, compact and portable sound system.

Works great,

I bought this at Target for my Shuffle. I knew the Shuffle wouldn't fit directly onto the dock, so I bought an AUX-in cord to connect the Shuffle to the speaker. Works fine. The only thing is that I have to use the shuffle to change songs, but the volume I can control on both. Not sure why, but it's not a problem, either. Just strange. I'm just happy I can use my shuffle for everyone to enjoy.

The speaker has great sound for its size. Also, the little clock is a nice little extra.

Memorex Foldable Travel Speaker For use with 1st gen ipod nano 4GB,
This review is from: Travel Speaker System for iPod with carrying case (White) (Electronics)
Short review because I am returning this unit, again. The box says it is compatible with the 1st generation ipod nano, which is what I have. The ipod plays music, and sounds pretty decent for a travel speaker, however the unit does not charge my ipod. I returned the first unit, thinking it was defective. However, I just tried the replacement unit, and I have the same issue. The ipod plays, but the battery does not charge. It's a great concept and I like the compact size, but it's not useful to me if it doesn't charge the ipod battery as advertised. Anyone else having this problem?
