These flash cards, shaped like little suitcases, are the perfect complement to Greetings from Kiwi and Pear. Each card features a picture with its name in both English and Spanish: plane and aeroplano, suitcase and maleta, swimsuit and traje de bao. The cards are held together by a ring on a spiral cord that can be clipped onto a child's backpack. They are a valuable language tool for families planning trips, or for parents who want to talk to their children about foreign languages and places.
It all started with a child's love of art. Joyce Wan designed her first greeting card when she was just 8 years old for a city-wide greeting card design contest sponsored by the Art Institute of Boston. The design won first place and was subsequently sold through a major department store. Twenty years later, Joyce turned that early success into inspiration to launch her design studio Wanart (http://www.wanart.com) in 2003.
Joyce's debut picture book "Greetings from Kiwi and Pear" (Blue Apple Books) was published in 2009. Her two latest books "You Are My Cupcake" and "We Belong Together" were published by Scholastic/Cartwheel in Fall 2011. She also teaches courses on greeting card design and art licensing at New York's School of Visual Arts helping others pursue their creative passions. The book "We Belong Together" was selected for the Society Of Illustrators 2011 Original Art Show, an annual exhibit which showcases the year's best children's picture books.
Through all her work, Joyce hopes to inspire people to embrace the spirit of childhood and follow their dreams!
