I am prone to nausea and vomiting and bought this product perhaps six months ago, just in case I got sick unexpectedly. I had the need for it for the first time yesterday. It worked exactly as advertised. Despite my being very, very sick, the bag held everything in and soaked it up quickly. It also sealed well when I was done, making disposal easy. My clothes (and the room I was in) stayed clean. And, better yet, I didn't have to put my head down a toilet! I will be buying more. I would have given the product five stars, but, lets face it, how can anyone "love" a vomit bag?

I was already a fan of the plastic version of TravelJohn which comes with a plastic unisex collar, sometimes called a female adapter. This version I am reviewing now is paper with no collar/adapter so you just go into the top of the open bag. It has the same internal small bag of gelling powder that solidifies and neutralizes any fluid coming in contact with it. It's hard to tell myself that paper will hold liquid but this bag does, and the gelling powder is very effective. To use this one you tear open the top of the bag, made easy by a well-perforated tear strip. Then you unfold the bag to an open position and hold the bag with one hand on each side (or in front and in back) and relieve yourself into the open bag. When finished using, you pull off an adhesive strip near the top on the outside of the bag and fold down to seal the bag before disposing in the trash. TravelJohns are a big help to me when illness causes nighttime urgency but pain makes me slow getting to the porcelain john. I do have one warning about these paper ones though. I have used them successfully but last night I failed to notice that after I unfolded it, one of the sides reverted to a partly folded position. This diverted some of the stream onto the outside of the bag and a little fell to the carpet before I realized what was happening. To avoid this, hold the bag with a hand on each of the sides of the bag (where the vertical folds are) to prevent the creases from folding back up. For once I was glad I don't own a cat as I can just imagine it laughing at me while I searched Utube for the proper clean-up method. It was my bad for not noticing the bag had started to re-fold itself but I took off a star because it is not as easy to use as the plastic TravelJohon. Just be aware of the differences if you choose the economical paper version. I still like both products and am grateful for them in many situations other than illness. I have some in my car and my emergency grab & go bag.

I bought these to have in the car for emergency urinary needs. I got stuck behind an accident for about 8 hours one time and had to jerry-rig a solution to my urinary distress. I read a lot of reviews and saw a product my sister carries in her car, before deciding on this product.

I think I'll stick with my jerry-rigged solution. This product would be fine for vomit and for guys. I'm surprised by how many women say they use these without a problem. I know I would have a mess on my hands (sorry no pun intended). I (wrongly) assumed the bag had a flat bottom. This is nothing but a paper bag with a packet of absorbent gel inside. I thought the gel would be built into the bag, as a sort of liner, but it is not. The gel packet is a completely separate item just sitting inside the bag. It may work just fine, I'm just letting you know the little surprises I encountered. Each bag comes sealed so the packet is not in danger of getting lost. To use, you tear off the top of the bag along a perforation.

I will be posting photos showing the design of the bag and the gel packet. After tearing off the top perforated strip, the bag is 10" tall. The top of the bag, if formed into a circle, measures 16" around. It naturally falls into a 3.25" by 5" rectangle. You may notice those measurements don't exactly add up but they're pretty close.

Since these aren't going to work for me, I sacrificed one as an experiment. I poured in one cup of water. In about a minute the gel had soaked it all up, I couldn't even pour off one drop. However, because the bag does not have a flat bottom, I had to hold the bag the whole time waiting for it to solidify. Maybe people just seal it up without waiting; I was just following the directions. It says it can hold up to 28 ounces.

As a hard-charging executive, I'm constantly finding myself in need of a bathroom. The other day I drank a half gallon of Diet Dr. Pepper shortly before hopping on the L train. Huge mistake. Five minutes later, it felt like I was holding the ocean in a weak water balloon. I would have whizzed on the third rail if I could have gotten those #@&! doors open, but none of the other passengers would help. (What is it with people in this city?) Then I remembered I had a box of TravelJohns in my attaché. I whipped it out and filled all five bags. What a relief! That could have been really embarrassing.

BTW, this works just as well for #2. But that's a whole other story.

My son has terrible motion sickness. We had planned a car trip from VA to NY and we were very concerned about not always being able to pull over in time. These saved us hours of clean up. They contained the oder until our next stop and held it all. Was a little tricky for our 6 year old to seal but I didn't mind helping with that, especially since it did not require scrubbing out the car. I bought several boxes so I now always have one on hand.
