My husband and I camp in the Alaskan bush. The folding commode vastly improved our enjoyment camping (we used it without the plastic bags). It is sturdy and strong to sit on, and well made. It folds up to a size smaller than a folding camping chair. It has small pockets to hold toilet paper which is handy. If you camp without bathrooms, this product will really be helpful.

The TravelJohn Foldable Commode/Chair is probably the next best thing to going at home. It comes with a storage bag and a detachable piece that fits around the seat opening to provide padding and hold a toilet bag in place. The pouch on the side can be used to store toilet paper, wipes, and hand sanitizer. It can store different items when not being used as a commode.
There is lots of info about the folded dimensions (24"x6"x6") but nothing about the expanded size. It measures 18.5" wide, 18.5" deep, and 18" tall. I bought this in hopes of using it in a 5" x 7" tent. With a cot and gear bag inside this seat is too wide and too tall. I believe it is an excellent product for a larger tent or in its own shelter. For that reason I am keeping it. The dual functionality is a definite plus. I intend to use the product as a commode and a chair and add a piece of ply wood on top to make a table or nightstand. A Clip 'n Seal Clip-n-Seal Bag Clips - Large 3 Pack will seal whatever toilet bag you choose between uses.
I don't see any cons to this product. The unfolded dimensions should have been mentioned in the description. I might not have purchased it but for $5.00 (after using Amazon Rewards points)its a steal as the price has increased since I bought it. I guess it has to be the size it is to accomodate people at the maximum weight limit.

You can't go wrong with this product as long as you have room for it.

I have just recently started to camp. My boyfriend loves to go rustic camping but i really hated the out houses. This is the best thing ever made!!!
We recently went for 5 nights camping, some nights extremely cold and a few raining all night so it was wonderful to not have to go out of the tent. I was sick of going off the bumper of the truck :):):) LOL.

We bought this to use camping, as our trailer doesn't have a portapotty. I didn't want to use a cassette one for my one middle of the night "oops, I have to pee" so saw this one on Amazon. Well, after one camping trip and two uses, I'm a believer! We used the standard bags for travel commodes and put a little bit of kitty litter in the bottom to absorb and deoderize, even though it was outside. Worked like a charm! Great construction, comfortable and oh-so-portable! No messing with emptying "cassettes" or sanitizing anything. One twist tie in the morning and no trace of anything. SO worth the money!!

This chair is very well made but, a bit heavy because of its steal frame! It does not come with a waste collection kit. Also, it comes with it's own carrying bag.

This works perfect. It did not come with the bags or the gel stuff so know you have to get those seperatly. Yes I'm a girl and this is the perfect travel toilet.

I have had one of these for over 5 years. Well designed and comfortable. Also, when it is below freezing, you will appreciate the padded/insulated seat. This deserves more than 5 stars!

My TravelJohn Foldable Commode was delivered today and I was very surprised of the excellent quality of this commode for the small asking price. It unfolds and flolds back up with ease, it will always be in our jeep when 4-wheeling or camping, It's very strong and I'm sure it will last many years. With Standard Shipping it was delivered in 3 days.

I love my travel john. It can be used for primitive camping when squatting gets to be too much for old creaky knees, or for campground camping when it's too much trouble to hike to the bathhouse. It fits nicely in a 4 man tent corner; I used a regular garbage bag with kitty litter to absorb moisture. It has a comfortable padded seat, and doubles as a place to just sit when the fold over cover is in place. I wish I had thought to buy it sooner!

The Travel John work out great for us we went camping in Kings cayon It rate a 5 for me. Laura Schoellerman
