A pleasant surprise,
This review is from: The Traveler (Paperback)
When this book was recommended to me, I sort of rolled my eyes and agreed to read it to shut my friend up. I mean, I'm old. Married. Have three small children. Don't practice Wicca. So I sort of thought that reading a young adult novel about Wicca was a touch on the ridiculous side. But I like my peace and quiet and if it meant less nagging from my friend, then I was all over it. To my shock, I couldn't put this book down. Mr. Smith writes in a way that draws you in and makes you NEED to know what's going to happen on the next page. The Traveler is an easy, interesting read and I'd recommend it to anyone. And now I have to grudgingly admit to my friend that she was right. I HATE that.

I read this book every day on my lunch break at work. It was so hard to stop, I was even late to return to work a couple of times. Great story and easy to read. I thought it was incredible that a book like this, from a girl's perspective, could have been written so well by a man! Absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone who has not had the pleasure of reading it.

Sol Smith has written a great novel, which just happens to be his first; it's imaginative, unique, poetic, and puts the reader right in the moment, racing toward the heart-thumping, satisfying ending. One need not be Wiccan to appreciate this novel. Smith creates an entire world built around Wiccanism, and his characters truly bring it to life. This is a writer to keep an eye on.

The Traveler is an amazing novel of magic and friendship. Smith has a keen way of telling this story from a girl's point of view. Great plot with a few twists I didn't see coming. Fantastic summer read! You don't know what you're missing.

I read this book in only 2 days, which is rare for me. Loved how Smith captured the female adolescent persona- I knew nothing about Wiccan rites, etc. and came away from this book not only entertained but much wiser too! Pacing of the book and dialogue keeps the pages turning for sure.

A wonderful, unique book!,

Once I got used to the rhythm of the book, I was hooked. The characters were complex, and the book was written to an intelligent audience: two things that can sometimes make a book tedious for dummies like me. In this case, however, Sol Smith had my attention for the duration. I was sad when it was over.

Very promising author,
This review is from: The Traveler (Paperback)
After reading the book summary, I was a bit interested but not sure I would enjoy the Wiccan theme. When I received the book I sat down to read it, and let me tell you I never put it down til I finished it. It was an awesome book and I felt like I understood what was going on the entire time. This is a book that needs to be read. I am waiting for the next book by Sol Smith. Definitely 5 stars!

This book was recommended to me by a Facebook friend. I had several other things to read first when I bought it, and I wish I had put those aside in order to get to this one sooner. Mr. Smith has a very engaging writing style, guiding the reader smoothly through deep characters and an intricate plot while marking his trail with the kids of insights to life that are common to all great reads. Due to the supernatural aspects of the story it's most likely to appeal to sci-fi/fantasy fans, but this effort deserves more than a genre pigeonholing, it deserves to be read.
