I have listened to this album at least 25 times since I bought it.

Traveler in one sentence is the best solo recording since his first self-titled release.

All I can say is, it grew on me and now I can say I really enjoy the album.

I bought this album for my girlfriend, who is a Phish lover. So much so, we named out son (against my will) Trey. I am not a Phish fan. I'm not a jam band lover. I listen to rock, punk and classic rock. I tried to give Phish a chance, but I just can't get into their music. I even went to a couple of their shows, only for my girlfriend's company...it didn't do anything for me. So I bought this for her for Christmas. It's been in her car since then. So whenever I drive it, it's playing. All I can say is, it grew on me and now I can say I really enjoy the album. I've even been singing their songs. I was thoroughly surprised that I would even say such a thing, but this isn't Phish, it's totally different. And that's probably why I like it. It also reminds me somewhat of older U2. Not necessarily the sound, but the feel of the overall album. As if it has a strong meaning in a part of your life. So anyway, this is a great album. But please, take my review with a grain of salt. This review comes from someone who does not like Phish, yet loves the first album he's ever heard from the front man of Phish. I'm actually interested in his prior, and future, solo works. I think my girlfriend would be proud to read this review, and know I actually like something about her favorite band.

Trey does it again with his magical guitar playing. He really is the best guitarist touring regularly these days, with either Phish or his own band. Compared to his other releases, which I own all on vinyl, this is up top with his best. I highly recommend it. The Clint Eastwood cover is remarkable and honestly a really hard tune to cover, and he nails it along with the female vocals. The studio production of this LP is by far the best Trey has produced in his life (less-Phish releases), and this is a must have for ay Phish/Trey fan. Go get it before it sells out and you'll find yourself paying $50+ again. EnJOY!!

When I heard Traveler for the first time, I wasn't sure what to think. The album felt a bit inconsistent with songs ranging from simple (Let Me Lie) to avant garde (Scabbard). Then, I took a second listen. I was completely surprised by what I had missed the first time around. The songs collectively are better after multiple listenings and I can safely say this is Trey Anastasio's best solo effort to date. Highlights include the Gorillaz cover Clint Eastwood along with Land of Nod and Traveler.

While he is best known as the frontman of the jam band Phish, Trey Anastasio is really a renaissance man working on projects all over the place. From orchestral works to Broadway plays, Anastasio isn't afraid to experiment. On his latest solo album Traveler, this creative composer gives his fans a trippy rock album with shades of Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, and Spin Doctors.

Not every song on this album is brand new. "Clint Eastwood" is a cover of a Gorillaz song with a fantastic vocal performance by Jennifer Hartswick, while "Let Me Lie" is a reworked version of an older Phish song. Other songs, such as "Land of Nod" and "Frost," may be familiar to those who have seen Trey perform live in the past year, as he has been trotting them out in concert since late 2011.

There is no denying Trey's ability as a songwriter and performer, and he always surrounds himself with excellent musicians. Traveler is a fun, fantastic album that should satisfy long-time fans and perhaps make some new ones.

I didn't buy it from amazon but from dry goods. From front to back this album is terrific. Can't argue with the Clint Eastwood cover, but imo thats just a bonus. Corona, Let me Lie, Pigtail are simple yet truly very "phishy." Land of Nod, well, thats a nod to trey's old days haha! This is one of his only solo gigs that I can actually listen to at a regular rate. Buy this, you won't be disappointed!

I have to admit the first time I heard this disc, I was a little disappointed. To me, it just doesn't have the high energy that earlier Trey and Phish albums have. However, I will say it grew on me with subsequent listening. Let Me Lie and Clint Eastwood are great. Frost is pretty cool, and there are a few others that I like as well. But there is nothing on the disc that is hands down amazing to me, and I usually feel that way about most Trey/Phish albums. Still, glad I got it just to mix things up a little.
