We've traveled in Baja California three times and wouldn't do it without this book. Roads, campgrounds, gas stations, all are described in detail and tell you what to expect. Everything you need to know about crossing the border is here. Even on our first trip, we felt fully prepared. We could select what we wanted to see and where we wanted to stay, confident that our trip would be as described in the book.
My first copy wore out from use and I actually had to buy another copy!!! I wrote all over it, made notes in the margins, and carried it everywhere, it literally wore out. That is how much I loved and used and relied on this book. The best book for Baja camping ever! The ONLY book I will use in Baja.
Get this book and you'll be leaving on your trip in no time. Complete logistical guide with an overview of everything you'll need from border info, gas, ATM's, etc makes it incredibly easy. Set off using their sample itinerary or just hit the road and find the right campground in each region. On a given night, you can choose from a rustic boondock to a full service RV park using the services and pricing key and complete descriptions included with each campground. As a testament to the quality of this book, ask every gringo you see while in Baja what's in their library and I bet 99% of them have a dog-eared copy of this book on the seat next to them. We even pulled into Campo #5 overlooking La Bufadora (check our site in my profile for a trip report) and the 8 year-old kid collecting our $6 said "Tengo el mismo libro" - even he had the book!
A well written, detailed look at traveling in the Baja. Although we are experianced travelers in our diesel class A, we have been somewhat concerned about "doing the Baja" by ourselves. This book with it's camping spots, highway directions and many attractions had alleviated our concerns. Jan 2013, we will be on our way...
Traveler's Guide to Camping Mexico's Baja is a great book on which to build your Baja adventure. My wife and I used it to tent camp throughout the Baja peninsula. It was filled with useful information. I do feel however that the book is geared more toward RV camping than tent camping. Overall, a useful and solid purchase.
This is written and published by husband and wife. They are kind folks and provide a good service in guiding you to, Baja, Mexico camping, as well as interesting things to do along the way. Great GPS coordinates are included which I found worked better for my automobile GPS than addresses in Mexico.
