Book Description

Travelers' Tales Guides May 6, 2002
Journey into Spain with some of the world’s best writers, and discover a country of heightened senses, bougainvillea blossoming in crimson and orange, and air pungent with sizzling olive oil. Readers travel the ancient road to Santiago, get a glimpse of Pamplona during the running of the bulls, walk in Don Quixote’s footsteps on a midlife quest, and follow a woman’s dream to study the “male” art of flamenco guitar. These soulful stories of travel in a land poised between the old world and new. Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Barbara Kingsolver, Calvin Trillin, and Penelope Casas are among the authors featured.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about Spain and the Spanish people. The editor have a great knack for selecting extremely interesting and well-written pieces,, none of which are very long, making it a very easy read. You will enjoy this book whether or not you have ever visited Spain, or plan on vacationing there.

5.0 out of 5 stars a book as simple and complex and lovely as Spain, August 21, 2008
By
This review is from: Travelers' Tales Spain: True Stories (Travelers' Tales Guides) (Paperback)
Lucy McCauley crafted a deft meta-tale of Spain with the stories she chose for this book--no reader or traveler to Spain will leave its pages without being enriched. How I wish this book had existed when I went to Spain as a student years ago. In fact this is one of the reasons I wanted to publish it in the first place (I'm the publisher at TT), and Lucy more than delivered the goods.
