4.0 out of 5 stars A mix of country soul and straight-up Americana blues
The Good
"Time to Go" is a sad, piano laden blues track with lots of tear-jerking emotion. "Church of the Open Highway" is rich with melody and has the kind of guitar lick improve that tears into you whether your paying attention or not. The chorus of "See You Around" is so powerful with it's blended vocal melodies. "Travelin' On" is a simple, yet personal track...

3.0 out of 5 stars More Clarks Please!
Scott Blasey's 2007(?) solo album is very pleasant and a good listen every time. It never really hooked me like some albums (and all of the Clarks albums) do, but when I run across it and play it I am always pleased. I really like "Don't Try This At Home" alot better.

The Good
"Time to Go" is a sad, piano laden blues track with lots of tear-jerking emotion. "Church of the Open Highway" is rich with melody and has the kind of guitar lick improve that tears into you whether your paying attention or not. The chorus of "See You Around" is so powerful with it's blended vocal melodies. "Travelin' On" is a simple, yet personal track that is comprised of just Blasey, his guitar, and his inner feelings. "Be Your Man" is a touching track that Scott clearly wrote for his lady love. It's rich with acoustics & faint electrics. "Baby, You're my Saving Grace" is just a great country-inspired track.

The Bad
Nothing notable

The Verdict
Travelin' On is a mix of country soul and straight-up Americana blues, accented with Blasey's personal reflections on life.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the buy., April 18, 2007

Not the same Scott you no from the Clarks or even his earlier albums. Know for his voice and clean acoustic, Travelin' On is mix-mash of generes. "Time to Go" has a good piano on great lyrics, "Sweet Mystery" is a cool blues-ish tune with a hint of gospel girls. The title track is the most similar to anything you'd here on Shine, which by default, makes it a lyric, rhythm, and music smörgåsbord of goodness. "Be your Man" is a modern 60's doo-wop/rock song; a real treat. Overall, a very mature album with Scott spreading the styles. He did miss it on two tracks though. Eh, but that's what the skip forward button is for.
