Practical tools, plus stories from the heart,
By
This review is from: Traveling Hopefully: How to Lose Your Family Baggage and Jumpstart Your Life (Hardcover)
Having read many self-help books and ultimately burned out on them, Travelling Hopefully was a pleasant surprise. The way that Libby tells her personal stories, and then goes into the steps she took - and we can take - to deal with similar issues, made me really connect with the author. Most writers are not as revealing, choosing to use stories from other anonymous people versus revealing their own dark secrets. Libby's stories are beautifully told and completely moving, and the solutions that she offers are real, and achievable. Travelling Hopefully is the best book that I've read in this arena.

From hopeful to JOYFUL!,

I'm a motivational book freak - and this one is at the top of my list! First of all, Libby's real life struggles read like a novel. Secondly, the tools she created to transcend her past are simply amazing! This book helps us identify our family legacies and turns negatives from our past into positives in our present. No blame, shame or guilt here - just a roadmap to creating a life full of joy and purpose. I was astonished at how effective Libby's tools are - and how quickly they return results. This book changed my life!!

This Book Jump-started My New Business,

This review is from: Traveling Hopefully: How to Lose Your Family Baggage and Jumpstart Your Life (Hardcover)
I was at a cross roads in my career and I picked up Libby Gill's book, hoping it would give me some direction. Boy, did it do that!
Libby's examples were so personal and relatable. I was able to figure out my passion, enact a plan of attack and form a support group to help me achieve my goals. Once I knew what I wanted and committed to it, everything fell into place. I launched a lifestyle and entertainment PR firm in New York City and I've never been happier. I was able to let go of lots of things the past had taught me and take a risk. This was the first book that made everything seem tangible and the messages were clear and concise. I credit Libby Gill for showing me the path that lead to a new chapter in my life and the birth of a thriving new agency. I highly recommend this book for anyone who needs clarity figuring out their life's passion and are brave enough to go for it.

"Traveling Hopefully" is an inspiring self help book but it is also a great resource for general life management. My favorite tool is "Tagging Your Baggage" - turning the negative labels that have attached themselves to you, into positive ones. For years my family called me a "Motor Mouth" but with the help of "Traveling Hopefully" I now think of myself as a "Great Communicator." I highly recommend this book to anyone who aims to better understand themself and the world in which they live.

First move away and then get an unlisted number.,

Moving to another state and getting an unlisted telphone number was how I dropped my "family baggage".
Personally, I am not a big fan of Self Help literature so I am giving this 3 stars instead of 2. The fault may be with me. With regards to Self Help, I'll take a ten milligram Valium over thinking "Happy Thoughts" any day. Gill takes us on a journey through her mildly dysfunctional childhood as she introduces us to the 21 tools (exercises) which are attempts to help us recapture the enthusiam of our "inner child" and associate our current state to those past positive imprints. Some of the exercises, I found helpful and others I didn't. On the plus side, Traveling Hopefully doesn't insult you with mindless repetitions of "positive affirmations", no delusional visions of "healing lights" or guardian angels nor are you encourage to "just think happy thoughts". Traveling Hopefully, asks you to examine your family legacy in a new light but in a realistic way - writing in a day journal. Not easy but at least you aren't glossing over real pain with New Age hooey. In a way, these exercises are similar to what a psycho-therapist would have you do. I should know. On the negative side, the assumption is made that your family's dirty dark secrets lie somewhere in the distant past and are not currently sitting 10 feet from you now. It is also assumed that should you be able to miraculously drop your family baggage that you are still young enough to do something else with your life. Only in fairy tales is everyone young and pretty and as my mother used to say, "Life ain't no fairy tale". Traveling Hopefully is worth a read for those inspired by motivational literature but its not for the unrepentent skeptic. For them, I would recommend "Born to Win" and Dr. David Burns "Feeling Good". Instead of a cathartic approach, these two books use cognitive behavior modification - you don't worry about the past, you just deal with now.

Practical insight you can use right now,

Ms. Gill's latest book, "Traveling Hopefully", is packed with practical strategies and techniques that will guide readers (yes, even we men) to find direction and purpose on life's journey. I especially like the way Ms. Gill applies her useful and no-nonsense exercises as mile markers throughout her book as she courageously shares the twists and turns of her inspiring life story. With committment and compassion, Libby Gill has constructed a road map that each reader can follow as he or she continues the journey toward a more hope-filled, enlightened and self-reliant life.

An Inspiring and Exhilirating Journey,
By
This review is from: Traveling Hopefully: How to Lose Your Family Baggage and Jumpstart Your Life (Hardcover)
Powerfully motivating, TRAVELING HOPEFULLY offers life-changing opportunities. Masterfully weaving events from her own life as illustration, Gill gives invaluable insights into how you can articulate your life's passions and then turn them into realities. With spirited and thoughtful concepts like "JumpStart," "Support Squad" and "Planning, Passion and Perseverance," Gill shows you how to make a life built by design, not default. And her 21 Hopeful Tools -- that are clearly and cogently offered up in the book -- show you just how to make it happen. But perhaps what sets its tone apart is Gill's revelatory and personal moments shared from a fractured family life growing up and professional upheaval working as a high-level executive for entertainment conglomerates. While TRAVELING HOPEFULLY is set up to be a hearty companion for a memorable, results-filled journey of your own, it also makes strikingly compelling reading.
