1.0 out of 5 stars It is defective on arrival
When I received the item, the two piece of the board doesn't connect up in a way that resembles a go board, one of the metal piece on top is off balance, to get it back to the perfect shape, the only way is the rip out the metal board, and put it back, but then you end up destroying the glue underneath, so basically this thing sucks, big time.

Don't waste...

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy Enough, Good Price, February 28, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

I ordered this so that I could play Go against a real person face-to-face, particularly for a lengthy trip to the East Coast coming up. The game shipped quickly and is rather sturdy. The two plastic trays the stones come in help keep things organized, and are a definite improvement over the plastic bags that come with cheaper portable games. There was no rule book, but I ordered a Go Guide before I ordered the board anyway. Best of all, the price was very fair. Overall a good product for anyone that likes strategy games, and has someone to play them with on long trips or at home.

The only knock I have is that the lids on the little bowls come off easily, so you want to be careful opening the board. It closes well enough that it (the board) doesn't pop open easily, but you generally will want to carry it in something. It's a fine little full (19 x 19) Go board. If you think you might want it you probably do. It's hard to beat it at this price.

This go set comes with a foldable 19x19 board and magnetic stones in two containers. The overall quality is okay except: 1) The magnets under most stones are not flat, so that when you put the stones on the board, most of them do not stand flat on the board, but with one side sticking up. 2) The bare magnets can easily scratch the board. 3) Since the stones are small, it is difficult to put a stone among the other stones on the board in a middle game. Although the price is not high, hoping for a better quality is not unreasonable.

Don't waste your money and buy something else. This thing doesn't cut it.

Note the go is very light and small, the magnet falls off easily since it is adhered with double sticky tape only to the plastic chips. If your are traveling in the car or air plane, and you really want to play the game so badly, try it. otherwise it is not recommended.

According to Wikipedia "Go originated in ancient China, centuries before its earliest known references in 5th century BC writing. ... Go is noted for being rich in strategic complexity despite its simple rules."

This is a complete portable Go set at a reasonable price. I purchased this as a gift for my 10-year old nephew who is also interested in Chess. While the rules of Go are simple he will probably need a Go strategy book as well. Shipping from Yellow Mountain Imports included tracking and the package arrived on time for Christmas.

I know it is magnetic, so i wasn't expecting much. When I got it however, the magnets were roughly inserted into the pieces, and a good number have fallen out. the pieces are also too small for proper play.

It is however a decent travel companion, if you are already a go fan.

This is a great board game for traveling. Don't expect it to be grade A quality though. Some of the magnets will fall out but just shove them back in and there might be little scratches on the board. Overall, though it was what I was looking for at this price range and the magnets are powerful enough that the pieces don't move when jolted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good travel set; unbelievable value, April 1, 2009
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

I have to join the chorus on this one--a solid, durable travel Go set. The price point is astonishing ($12 at this writing)--this would be a good value at twice the price. The inclusion of plastic bowls--with lids for prisoners--is an excellent feature. Components themselves are of respectable quality. The "stones" are of course plastic, and you will probably have a few deformed ones, where the magnet wasn't quite glued in straight or there is still some flash on the seams from the manufacturing process. This can all be corrected if it bugs you. The board is reasonable, with a slight seam down the middle when opened that is at most a minor annoyance. The board does not have a clasp to hold it securely closed, so I recommend a sturdy rubber band when you travel with it. And open _carefully_ to avoid spilling stones. Those quibbles aside, I'm very happy with the product and the price, and have no qualms about awarding it five stars. A great purchase!
