5.0 out of 5 stars Christ Moore on acid?, April 12, 2001
By
This review is from: Traveller (Audio CD)
A Christy Moore fan for years, I bought this album expecting to hear Christy's usual mix of humour, thought provoking lyrics, catchy rhythms, and a few revamped Classics. Except for the humour, it was all these things and more. If you already have Christy's other albums, you're in for a big surprise when you hear "Traveller", but I won't give the surprise away by telling you what he's done with it. Suffice to say that the man's in tune with where Irish music is headed, and as always, steps a few paces ahead of the masses. The CD cover's fairly cool as well.

Oh yeah, The Edge plays a bit of guitar too by the way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Christy Moore is amazing, April 20, 2001
This review is from: Traveller (Audio CD)
Christy Moore...wow... this CD is marvelous.

I heard most of Christy Moores work live....live in concert ones...bought mostly live CDs before.

I noticed with one or two studio works before that he has quite elaborate arrangements, quite different from his normal only him and guitar/bodhran live experience (which absolutly moved me when I saw him in 1993 or so... - I hope he gets better to be able to play again sooooon!)

Anyway...this album rocks.... I would love to know how the work was done between Christy Moore and his Keyboard/Arrangment/Mix person Leo Pearson - this CD makes U2 sound old fashioned and the Corrs mainstream - and it makes both sound like they have never been to Ireland and have completly forgotton Irish music as well as new music and where music is going to go.

I just wish they would release it in the US so you don't have to pay the imported price...ouf....

Thank you Christy Moore

4.0 out of 5 stars Sombre Evening with the Great Voice of Ireland., February 19, 2007

Christy Moore has come a long, long way since his Planxty days. 'Moving Hearts' was the rockier road to where he is now. It's the voice that we go to for Moore. and when it's given eminence, this set also soars. There's a somewhat morbid feel to the concert, inspite of the upbeat tempo of such inclusions as the,'Raggle Taggle Gypsy'. Moore sets the scene with the dour invocation of,'Urgency Culture' and the night is in place. In a sense, Moore has always sounded wise, the archaic voice of Ireland and he is to its music what Seamus Heeney, Banville, or Toiban are to its fertile literature. Yet I prefer the warm engagement of the younger Moore, of the 70s, his'Prosperous' and the epigymous titled work that came soon after the demise of Planxty. The surging accompaniment on this outing, for these ears, throws the voice out of whack, and draws attention to itself which endistances my response.
