Not for the casual traveler to Germany looking for WW2 sites,

This review is from: A Traveller's Guide to the Battle for the German Frontier (Traveller's Guides to the Battles & Battlefields of WWII Series) (Paperback)
If you are looking for an easy-to-follow guide book highlighting some of the key WWII sites to visit in Europe then I don't recommend this book. If you are a die-hard military buff looking for detailed and laboriously researched information about WWII battles along the border of France and Germany in the Belgium and Luxembourg area then you will appreciate this book.Take a close look at the image of the back page to see the actual area covered by this book.

Fairly useful, but more detail, especially maps, are needed to help one from getting lost when touring the area. The many eyewitness accounts are appreciated.

This book is wonderful for WWII buff's who live in Europe and have the time to travel around and see all the battle sites. The directions are easy to follow and you will end up finding sites that you never would have otherwise. Some of the places in the book are deserted and 'off the beaten path' of normal travelers. All of the books that they have in this series (Normandy, etc) are highly recommended!

The directions in the book were hard to follow. I got lost and wasted a lot of time using the book. The maps were useless. My copy of the book is in a trash can in Belgium.

This is a fairly good account of the different battles and I especially wanted it for the account of St. Vith, Belgium. While it was a good account some difficulty tying it together. Would also like to note that a common error says the monument of the Engineers at St. Vith is that of Col. Riggs who indeed commanded a group of scraped together men who arrived there but the monument was put there by the 168th Engineers in 1992 who were part of that ragtag group that held back the attack before more men arrived. I helped the 168th dedicate the monument with their association in the woods where they fought the Germans back inDec. 1944this is not to take away from Col. Riggs and the 81st Engineers who were part of that same group but to give credit to the men who erected it for all of them.

As with other reviews, this book is very hard to follow. Also, you can tell the author is British as he makes false assumptions about the Americans who fought(and died) on most, wait, all of these battlefields. I too live in Europe and the maps were horrible. Dont waste your money on this one...

Useful but could have used more detail,

My husband and I are stationed overseas so that fact alone made using this book easy (or easier than if we were over here visiting). My husband is a history buff but I am more of a dabbler...so I wished there was more detail (he didn't need anymore).
