This review is from: Travelling Man (Audio CD)
Lyrically interesting, acoustic set of live performances. I was not familiar with Ralph McTell prior to stumbling across his song "After Rain" on, of all things, a Mary Hopkin collection. (Apparently she sang backup on the original, or at least another recording of the song. A marvelous recording, I might add.) The only song I recognized was "Streets of London" which may have been recorded by every British folkie since the '60's. McTell's voice is warm and expressive; the musicianship is impeccable and the performances flawless. His vocals remind me at once of Gordon Lightfoot and Roger Whittaker (sans sappy string accompaniment.) The samples give you a pretty good feel for the material, so if you like them don't be afraid to purchase the CD. There's not a bad song in the bunch. I listen to the CD a lot at work; very relaxing in a good way.
