I bought two of these carry-on bags, one in khaki and one in red. The quality was VERY different between the two. The Khaki was very poorly made! Loose threads everywhere, no extra heavy duty cloth on the bottom where it would be likely to get scuffed, a flimsy handle, a poor quality carry handle with an unfinished hem. Just really bad!
BUT, the RED bag was great! Just the opposite of the Khaki bag! I traveled throughout Europe for two weeks with only the red carry-on and the back-up bag. I did not have to ever check anything; even on really small planes! I could easily manage my own luggage. I did not need my husband to try and juggle both his luggage and mine. I could quickly collapse the handle and put the carry-on over my arm to run up and down stairs. The many pockets made it easy to organize my things and the way the front of the carry-on zips open and lays out, made it easy to find what I needed. I did use compression bags, but I was able to get everything I needed in the two pieces. So, I can highly recommend the red Carry-on but NOT the Khaki. I actually called Travelon and asked why there was such a difference between the quality of the luggage based on color. They said different colors are manufactured at different factories and the quality is not consistent between them. So beware! there is a major difference between the bags based on the color you choose! Look at the ?,s before the product description. I recommend that you roll over the pictures of various colors of this product. They are different The red one I have has a zipper pocket on the side opposite the bottle holder. Some do some don't. I purchased this bag the summer of 2012. I do not know if they have corrected these problems or not, but really look at the pictures before you buy.

Well-made, smart-looking bag. However, there's only about a 75% chance it will fit under any given seat in economy. After traveling extensively for a full year, I have yet to find a seat that it fits under easily, without having to be squished and shoved mightily (an entertaining spectacle for one's seatmates). Unfortunately this rough handling this leads to undue wear and tear on the bag, making it look beat-up well before a bag of its quality should with normal use. Additionally, when full the bag is a bit unwieldy and heavy for lifting into the overhead bin on the occasions where it doesn't fit under the seat. The back-up bag is smart-looking as well and has proven very useful; in fact I use it more often than the wheelie bag.
I wouldn't recommend this bag unless you are a strapping gentleman (or lady) who doesn't mind hoisting this into the overhead bins on the not-infrequent occasion that it doesn't fit under the seat, and is willing to deal with the inconvenience of shoving it under your seat on all other occasions.
Here's a chart of some common "under-seat" carry ons. Only the first three are true "under seat" bags for the purposes of the economy class traveler. The Eagle is the most reliable in terms of fitting under the greatest number of seats, however its smaller dimensions mean it can carry less things. Choose according to your personal preference:)
Eagle 13½"H, 13½"W, 8"T
Travelon 14"H 13.5"W x 8.5"T
Magellan 14¾"H, 12¼"W, 8¾"T
Samsonite 18½"H, 14¾"W, 7½"T
Hammacher Schlemmer 14¾'H, 15¾"W, 9¼"T

I ordered this piece for a few reasons: I was looking for a mid-price range piece, I wanted it to be under-the-seat friendly (I end up on quite a few small planes where average carry-ons are still too big), durability, and the tote bag was a nice bonus. I just got it in the mail and am very pleased thus far:
* Material seems durable, and has a nice feel, both inside and out.
* There are TONS of pockets, especially for its compact size. Really love the zipper water-bottle pocket!
* The tote bag is huge. It's a little thinner than I'd have liked; but, for light extras, it should be perfect. I also like the attachment strap on the back of the bag, that you can slip over the handle (nice when you need to make that mad-dash through an airport.)
* I only got 1 of the small, blue "pouches;" but, I'm not too worried about it. Outside of perhaps holding dirty laundry, I'm not really sure what it'd be used for (velcro, no zip, thin material, etc...)
* The photos make the pieces seem to be champagne in color; however, the color description of khaki is much more accurate. I would have loved a champagne, but I'm still happy with the coloring and enjoy the contrast between the khaki fabric and black trim/zippers.
I'm excited to see how it fairs once I pack and travel for the first time. Out of the box, I'm pleased.

I have now changed my review. This bag is not wearing as well as the first bag I have of the same type. The first bag is still good, however this bag is falling apart . . . the handles are coming apart from the seams and the zippers are very fragile. The wheels are wobbily. The pull handle is has too much wiggle. [Old review: This is the second bag I have purchased . . . I LOVE IT that much.] I have another one in red. Packs a lot, rolls easily, surprises everyone with the ease at which I travel . . .very light. The extra bag has a back strap that holds it securely to the rolling bag . . . no flipping as you are wheeling. To enhance the volume to be packed, I also use space bags (not the vaccuum kind) to really pack a week's worth of clothes for a cruise. Gowns pack easily in the back up bag. This bag is a charm!

I just got my bag today and had to tell you how much I Love it! I had read the review about a bad smell inside the bag, but ordered it anyway. I love the bag, it is just right for a weekend plane trip. I smell nothing in the bag and am so glad I did not let the other review stop me from getting it. It will hold everything I need for this weekend (lots of pockets for small thing), and I will not have to check a bag at the airport. Thank you Amazon (I got it in less then 24 hours!!)

I have used a soft leather almost duffle since 1996 for my many business trips. I was loathe to give it up since it was easy to flip under the seat and had outside pockets for everything I might need to pull out during a flight. But traveling with that bag along with a computer bag seemed increasingly inconvenient, especially as my laptops have gotten smaller but still added too much weight to my duffle to carry around comfortably. So I started to look for a new option.
I wanted it to have wheels, have room for my laptop, purse, book, iPhone, headphones, drink, make-up and snack, and organize it for easy access during flight. And it had to fit under the seat. This was the only bag that reviewers on this and other sites consistently reported meeting this demand. Still, I had trepidations. I wanted raw, undyed soft leather. But Alas.
When the Travelon bag arrived, the first thing that struck me was that the "fabric" was much thicker and much much nicer feeling than I had expected. There were pockets - functional ones - all over this thing. I loaded it up ,using a sleeve for my 12 inch computer, for a flight the next day. I was still skeptical that it would fit under the window seat. But it did. In that moment I was sold. I still need to create an organizing system for this bag so that I know exactly where to reach for what, but even so, the bag was equally easy to slip out from under the seat and find things. The zippers meet at the top, unlike at least one bag where they unzipped from center front upward (picture everything falling out in that configuration) so that it was easy to access.
The black bag pictured here has a gray lining. The lining, which feels more substantial while softer, than the lining in my suitcase, is, in my bag, light blue. A bonus for me.
I am very pleased and should Travelon ever release a soft undyed leather version, I will be the first to buy it.

I have owned this bag for 18 months and on my third trip with it coming home yesterday, the main zipper broke. I have lost three of the plastic pulls. They simply break off and are not replaceable The bag itself it good but the cheap plastic zippers and pulls have now made it unusable. I would never buy this bag again and despite the fact it is out of warantee I plan to send it back to Travelon. Don't buy this bag.

I love this bag even though I haven't used it yet! I usually don't like reviews of items when the reviewer hasn't used the product yet, but I wanted to address some of the issues other reviewers raised. No smell in my bag! The zippers work very well, and the handle opens and closes smoothly. I put a standard water bottle in the side holder and it fit snugly...just what you want. The included back-up bag is just a bonus. I didn't purchase this for the back-up bag, so I didn't expect much. It's basic...looks like it came from Target or Walmart. Good for a "back-up" ;) I recently purchased the Delsey Luggage Helium Fusion 3.0 Trolley Bag, and I returned it. It was wider than I wanted, and it reminded me of a briefcase. This Travelon bag has more style, and I want something that will fit under the seat. I'll add a review once I'm able to use it, but first look is great!
UPDATE - I have used this bag twice since I purchased it. After the first use, the main zipper separated at the seam. I contacted Travelon through their website, and I received an immediate response and instructions on how to obtain a new bag. I received the new bag within 3 weeks. I just used the bag on an overseas trip, and it is great for the plane. I did not put it under the seat as I intended because the flight was so long...I wanted room. It is small and easy to put in the overhead bin. My iPad is in a case, and it was a VERY tight fit to put in the front zipper compartment. My new case with keyboard would definitely not work in the front compartment. An iPad with no case would be an easy fit. I also used to the water bottle pocket, too. It was very snug and held the standard sized bottle well. It holds quite a bit, including a change of clothes and the quart size bag of toiletries fit perfectly in the plastic zipper pocket inside. Despite having the return the bag, I still LOVE this bag. It is the perfect size for me...not too big...but easy to roll around.

This suitcase is almost perfect. Stylish - great organization system, and fits nice in overhead compartments or under the seat in front of you. Only problem is the construction seems to be very cheap - the handle jammed after a few uses, and then eventually broke off from the bag completely.

My bag got here last night. At first I could not get the handle to come up. Then I could not get it to go down. Cheaply made. Don't waste your time or money on this. Look somewhere else.
