Great carry-on bag, even better than expected, June 20, 2011
Having read the reviews, I was expecting a really nice bag, especially for the price. But the bag is even nicer than I expected, with a number of pleasant surprises that show careful attention to design, materials, and assembly. The following features are not apparent from the picture. This was a great deal. I'm very pleased.
- There are two external zip pockets. In the picture of the bag, you can see the small one towards the top on the front, which is perfect for cell phone, keys, wallet, boarding pass, etc. What you can't see in the picture is that virtually the whole front zips open to form a very large flat pocket with gussets.
- Unzipping a small panel on the side opens a mesh sleeve for holding a water bottle, etc., effectively freeing a hand.
- Inside, there are three mesh pockets. Two are along one side, a couple of inches thick, and the third is flat on the back of the lid.
- Behind that flat pocket is another pocket about 1/2 inch deep. Expanding the bag (by unzipping the red-handled zipper) adds 2.5 inches depth to this pocket, making it three inches deep and taking the depth of the bag from 9" (carry-on size) to 11.5".
- The bag is very stable when rolling or standing. The wheels are at the outer corners. The little platform opposite the wheels is as close as possible to the opposite side of the bag, making the loaded bag less likely to tip.
- The wheels are inline skate wheels, with sealed ball bearings. There is an inch of clearance between the ground and the bottom edge of the bag, plenty for sidewalk rolling. If needed, you can remove them completely with a large Phillips screwdriver.
- The carry-handles lie flat and flush with the side and top of the bag, and yet are well-padded with neoprene.
- With the pulling handle fully extended, the bag stands 43" tall, the longest I've come across. This is important to me because I'm 6' 1". The long handle keeps the rolling bag away from my feet.
- The bag is surprisingly lightweight, at least three pounds less than my old bag, yet is very sturdy & tough.
- The bag is not nearly as glossy/satiny as it looks in the picture, which I appreciate.

Excellent Buy, July 29, 2010
Just used this on my first trip cross country. On the way from CA to PA, I used it as a carry-on. It fit nicely into the overhead and I didn't get any slack from the TSA regarding its size (it is the largest size for a carry-on). On the way back, I checked the bag because I had more stuff and had to expand it. It made it through the hands of the TSA without any tears, rips, etc. I probably could have gotten away with not checking it, but I didn't feel like trying to shove it into the overhead bin.
I was amazed at the amount of stuff I could get into it. I packed for a week with no problems. I like that it is significantly lighter than most of the other luggage pieces I looked at. This helps when you are trying to get it into the overhead on the plane. The wheels are sturdy and it was very balanced when I was lugging it through the airport.
The one thing I was concerned about was that the pull-out handle seems a bit wobbly. I went to a department store that sold this piece and talked to the sales person who knew a lot about luggage. He said that it is typical for it to be a bit wobbly. He showed me some other higher-end pieces that were the same and suggested I register the suitcase at TravelPro since they have a life-time warranty. He said they do this so it is easier to pull out the handle. From his experience (10 years in the luggage department), TravelPro has served its customers well and constructs quality luggage. Just a note, this same suitcase was significantly higher priced at the department store.
In all, I would recommend this product if you are looking for a nice-looking, quality carry-on piece of luggage.

NOT carry-on size!, August 15, 2011
This review is from: Travelpro Maxlite 22 Inch Expandable Rollaboard (Apparel)
I was hoping a previous reviewer just measured the bag wrong, but nope - it's clearly 15" wide, a full inch over the standard carry-on limit. What's more, the body of the bag is in fact 22", but the bumper/stand on the bottom adds a full 1.5". As the previous reviewer stated, you can get away with that in the U.S. in general, but other countries can be much more strict - in the UK, I've been forced to check a bag when it fit in the carry-on sizer, but wouldn't drop all the way to the bottom just because of the stand. There's no way this one would fit.
Amazon needs to update the product description to reflect the actual dimensions of the product, not the inaccurate numbers Travelpro claims.
