The promotional statement for Travelpro's Platinum 6 line: "Good luggage holds your wardrobe, great luggage is part of it".

I am blown away by the unique/different/odd/striking/pretentious appearance of this bag. The photos do not come close to giving a sense of how different this bag looks. The many chrome handle pieces, lower accents and zipper pulls really pop and give the bag a look that I can only describe as "bling" or "glitter". I would have ordered a less pretentious looking bag had I known.

If it grows on me eventually, I'll update my review.

Quality of the bag looks outstanding. It's so light I had to do a double take thinking it might be a cheap knockoff. Based on reviews construction and quality are completely consistent with Travelpro's reputation.

After my first trip: Changed from three to five stars. Styling grew on me as I used the bag. Solid construction. Balance is perfect - it stands upright with my laptop bag on top. Fit perfectly in the overhead bin on Southwest's 737.

Another thought on the bag's unique style... A frequent traveling friend of mine reminded me that I WANT my bag to stand out on the luggage return belt. Easier to spot and less chance a thief will try and walk off with it with the excuse "It looks just like mine".

Sadly, my first Travelpro bag seems to have been a lemon.

When it arrived, I was quite pleased. It seemed pretty well-made, and I really liked the color and the apparent durability of the fabric. The zipper wasn't as smooth as I had hoped, but for the price, I figured I could deal with it. I liked the smooth, quiet wheels, and the handle seemed to work well out of the box.

Unfortunately, halfway through my first trip, the handle retraction mechanism started to lock up in the fully extended position. Returning it to its fully closed position required the fussy, manual step of depressing the little buttons along the inside of the handle supports. That shouldn't happen with a brand new bag, and I should have returned it as soon as I got home. But before I could, I had to take another quick trip, and this time - again halfway through the trip - the handle locked up in the fully closed position. This was much more of a pain to deal with, because in order to pull it out, I had to remove all my clothes, unzip the interior lining, and do the fussy, manual step from the inside. Completely not cool! I had to resort to tying a scarf to the handle of the bag and dragging it behind me. Awkward and annoying.

My last rollaboard bag - a Victorinox - lasted almost 20 years and a few hundred thousand miles before finally giving out. This Travelpro couldn't last two weeks. Given the other, positive reviews here, I suspect I may have been served a lemon, but I travel a lot and need a bag I can trust, so I returned it and got another Victorinox instead.

Purchased this luggage after researching all other types of luggage (Samsonite, Victorinox, etc.) and the quality of this luggage is by far the best. The elegant design in addition to its durability makes it stand out among its competitors.
