3.0 out of 5 stars A better guide for baby than toddlers
Ok I know the title of the book is Travels with Baby, but it also says toddlers, and children. And truly did not tell me anything I didn't already know. Now if you are a first time mom, who has never traveled with a baby up to age 2, then sure its probably very helpful, especially if you have never had any advice from anyone else. Though it was how ever informational on,...

This is a must have book for everyone that has a baby or a toddler and intends to travel with it. It is full of extremely helpful information that will make your journey easier and cheaper. I have a 5 year old and we have been traveling with her a lot abroad during the last 3 years and I deeply regret that this book was not available at those travels to ease my trip planning and organizing. It will definitely reduce the expenses for my next trip substantially - with the information on rail tickets in Europe and the cruise lines. Not to mention all the helpful hints in all the nesessary things to pack for your child, which you alway forget to.
The book is also very easy to read with lots of humor and nice photos.
I aintend to give it to some of my friends as a present too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rick Steves for the stroller set!, October 16, 2007
This review is from: Travels with Baby: The Ultimate Guide for Planning Trips with Babies, Toddlers, and Preschool-Age Children (Paperback)
A great resource for families who love to travel-- whether it is to the next town over or across the globe. The author has great checklists, comparison charts, travel tips, ideas for gear & helpful websites. She throws in funny & touching stories (& pictures!) of her own family's travel adventures.

I work with new moms & read MANY of the baby books-- this one is DEFINITELY a keeper! It answers pretty much every question a traveling family might have (or points you in the direction of someone who can).

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly helpful.... and I don't really like to travel, January 24, 2008
This review is from: Travels with Baby: The Ultimate Guide for Planning Trips with Babies, Toddlers, and Preschool-Age Children (Paperback)
I was given this book as a gift. I didn't think I would get much out of it because frankly, I'm a bit of a homebody--didn't love to travel before kids and certainly don't love it more now that I have two.

But we do *have* to travel several times a year to see family and "Travels With Baby", because it is so thorough, has helped make a few recent trips run more smoothly. The author is so enthusiastic and understanding of the nitty gritty of little kids' routines--I feel like I can leave home now and not get the kids too messed up from their all-important routines.

This book has actually made me excited to go to a kid-friendly resort some time in the near future. Rivoli covers the details--vaccinations, passports, etc., in such detail that there is no guess work for me. I really appreciate that.

Now if you are a first time mom, who has never traveled with a baby up to age 2, then sure its probably very helpful, especially if you have never had any advice from anyone else. Though it was how ever informational on, how to obtain passports, now that we (the) parents are no longer together, what you need to do. It also had lists of contact info on where to rent baby/ child items, like strollers, carseats, for traveling where you dont want to bring all that stuff, which can be rather helpful, so I give it 3 stars, for being semi-helpful!

5.0 out of 5 stars Encourages parents to travel, November 11, 2007
This review is from: Travels with Baby: The Ultimate Guide for Planning Trips with Babies, Toddlers, and Preschool-Age Children (Paperback)
I picked up this book since we have both a preschooler and a newborn and are planning two overseas trips in the coming year, and I have to say Rivoli is riveting! Replete with practical tips, the book also reads as a sharp travelogue and a bit of escapist literature for this blurry-eyed mom. The best aspect of this book is that it encourages parents of small children to pack their bags AND their babes and get traveling, whether to a nearby state park or 'round the world. While an unabashed travel enthusiast, Rivoli also devotes a considerable amount of the book to safety tips and precautions, and I greatly appreciated her practiced and measured tone throughout the book in discussing such considerations. It is an excellent resource and refresher for our family as we were able to do a fair number of fun trips with our older child but felt we needed expert guidance on planning a trip that included our new addition.

After reading the section on train travel, my husband had the confidence to take our small frie on an Amtrak day trip outing. Then, he read on and found the camping section! So, off they went into the woods! Rivoli is my heroine. By the time we're done with her book we will have traveled by all modes of transportation. All my girlfriends are getting this book for Christmas!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great advice!, June 1, 2008

I am about to travel to Europe for 2 weeks (cruise for part of the time) with my 7 month old and I found this book to be very useful. It had ideas that I would not have considered and I am now much less stressed about the trip. It seems very realistic about what to expect and what to pack and she also does not ignore the fact that no matter how prepared you are going to be, things will still not go as planned and you must be flexible. She gives great tips for these types of situations. Would recommend to anyone about to travel with baby and/or toddlers. Very easy read and easy to reference when necessary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well-written and much-needed guide, April 27, 2008
This review is from: Travels with Baby: The Ultimate Guide for Planning Trips with Babies, Toddlers, and Preschool-Age Children (Paperback)
This book has some great suggestions for different types of travel (overseas, on a cruise ship, camping, etc) with recommendations for the type of travel that is best for different ages.

I found several products recommendations very helpful, and saved myself from disaster by reading about the documentation my baby will need when we go to Peru without my husband. Other gems were about airline fares for babies and how they vary by carrier.

She doesn't mention the Ergo baby carrier, which I would vote as the best because of its front, back or side options. The number of suggestions that I do pass along to friends that are taken from this book speak to its strengths.

4.0 out of 5 stars Informative read....gives you good advice and ideas!, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Travels with Baby: The Ultimate Guide for Planning Trips with Babies, Toddlers, and Preschool-Age Children (Paperback)
We love to travel and travelled often before we had kids. We would like to continue to travel, but are hesitant with infant twins. I bought this book to try and give us ideas on travelling with babies. It really does have some great advice. In fact, we have our first trip planned in a couple months thanks to this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gem for traveling with Multiples, November 2, 2007
This review is from: Travels with Baby: The Ultimate Guide for Planning Trips with Babies, Toddlers, and Preschool-Age Children (Paperback)
This is a gem of a travel book. As a new grandmother who loves to travel in the U.S., Mexico, South America and Europe, Travels with Baby offers invaluable tips that a neophite Nana might have overlooked -- from negotiating passport lines with carriers, babies, and bulky car seats to phoning ahead for info on cribs. The sections on traveling with marvelous multiples are perfect, as is the section on traveling by rail. My first proposal to the twins' parents will be a trip on the Coast Starlight - Southwest Chief to Albuquerque -- a trip that will reprise a memorable adventure I took my daughter on when she was young. (Imagine waking up in your own snug roomette to the sun rising between the buttes and mesas.) The new parents themselves love cruising and beach holidays; Shelly Rivoli provides wonderful information there, too. From cultural tips to up-to-date info and prices, this book will be a family resource. Travels with Baby: Two, please!
