Traverso, the international newsletter of historical flutes and flute-playing, celebrates its twentieth anniversary by reprinting the entire run of back issues in Volumes 11-20. The volume contains forty articles on the renaissance, baroque, classical, and early romantic flute, its repertoire, and performance practice, by expert authors including Rahel Brown, David Lasocki, Gianni Lazzari, Linda Pereksta, Kim Pineda, Ardal Powell, Stephen Preston, Susan E. Thompson, and Luca Verzulli. Also included are a new bibliography of writings on historical flutes and flute-playing published in 1999-2008, compiled by David Lasocki, and a CD with a searchable PDF of the entire publication including high-resolution color images.

More About the Author

Ardal Powell was born in Bournemouth, England, and studied at Westminster Cathedral Choir School, Cambridge, and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He has made a thousand flutes at one of the world's leading historical instrument-making workshops, which he co-founded in 1984. From 2007-10 he worked as a manager and editor at a specialist musicology press in upstate New York, and is now CEO of Music Word Media Group in Hudson NY. He is a member of the American Musicological Society, the American Sociological Association, and the Society of Authors, among other groups.
