Forget about actually learning the language., May 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Travessia 2 Workbook: Portuguese (Paperback)
This book is a result of the cutting edge philosophy espousing the idea that the way to learn a language is by mimicking sounds rather than the old boring alternative of actually learning grammer. If you want to really learn a language -- its archetecture, its secret -- do not buy this textbook. Find a good, boring grammar book that will teach you something, like verb forms, pronouns, possessives. That's what I am going to do, having wasted my money on this one. If you want to mimic a few sounds, this is the book for you. Useless.

I rate the entire package excellent, November 7, 2010
This review is from: Travessia 2 Workbook: Portuguese (Paperback)
I just read a negative review of the Travessia exercises workbook.
It claimed that one could only learn to repeat sounds. I think that one has to look at the exercise workbook as one component of the entire video based series.
I bought and have learned a lot with the videos and the textbook. The exercise manual that was reviewed, is just to provide extra practice exercises--not replace the whole video course.
The videos are excellent! They are authentic content, songs, video scripts, grammar explanations, and offer an excellent opportunity for listening comprehension.
