Keeping House Alive in the Birthplace,
By
This review is from: Trax Records 20th Anniversary Collection (Audio CD)
Let's begin with a bit of background information. I first stumbled across this particular cd while window-shopping inside FYE, at the mall in Mary Esther, FL. How ironic is that? Actually the real question is: How lucky is that? I picked up the cd, looked at the track listing (mentally noting how I already have over ¾ of the tracks on vinyl), and said to myself, "I'm coming back to get this". One week later I bought the cd and the rest is history...
This cd package is an excellent introduction to this phenomenon we call "House". As a House DJ "ambassador to the G.I.s" I would often have difficulty describing the music to people who had never heard of it (or mistaken it for Euro-Techno). This cd package would make the explanation that much easier. Great selection, and equally great blends - I pay attention to those -with the occasional flange for effect! After listening to the first 3 tracks of CD1 you might find yourself increasing the volume controls. If by chance you didn't increase the volume, then the first 3 tracks on CD2 might convince you. Word on the street is Trax Records is back, with new releases. Time to Jack all over again...

i first heard about this release in xlr8r, which was quite surprising since i was reading it at a studio run by vince lawrence, creator of one of the first (THE first, according to screamin' rachel) house tracks. he didn't go on to be a big name, but his track ('phantasy') is great. what makes this release so powerful, though, is that this is one of the lesser tracks on the three discs. not only that, the mix job on the first two is brilliant, carrying you from one track to the next without any break in momentum. if you like house, or you ever wanted to know what it is, this is the place to start.

Screamin' Rachael, the woman behind Trax records, has hit a home run with compilation! From its roots back to the city of Chicago in the early 80's, this House music CD is a must have. You've heard of Frankie Knuckles and of the wild house music scenes he has created, now hear the music that made it all happen. From hard house to the more mainstream club music, this compilation is sure to satisfy on so many levels. If you are new to this genre, jump right in with this collection and you will never look back! 5 Stars, for sure!!!!

wow... I read about this in some mag. I first heard this while I was kinda coming outta my 'goth/ alternative' stage ~1988. I bought this cassette called House Hallucinates @ Rainbow Records (a chain that is now all out of biz I think). Anyways, there were these tracks on there that was a sound I had never heard before. I played that tape hundreds of times blasting out of my silver 16v Scirocco. :) So anyways... flash forward to like 1990 or so and we're at Bonnie Dune beach in Santa Cruz for Wicked's full moon parties with SF djs Garth, Jeno, Markie and Thomas just blowing minds. But I'm outta my gourd and a couple of these songs on this compilation come on and just like take me over the top. Well, some naked guy then jumped into a camp fire and the cops don't bust the thousands of people dancing under a beautiful summer sky but ticket everyone's car... but a handful. mine included... Anyways, AcidHouse was just so raw. This compilation/ label (Trax)/ sound/ etc just completely got me hyped on the whole thing and now like 15 years later still doing the do. I bought myself a TB-303, SH-101 and all that. Here's to the infinite beat...

I'm from Chicago.....This album is very good old school, from Mendel, IIT, Chicago State, wharehouse. The person who gave it less is too young to understand....You don't buy this CD to spinn or mix....Its for Jackin.....Also it states all over the CD, mixed by BLAU,BLAU....just take the time and READ....... I am a dj from the chicago area and i am faithfully seeking all old school chicago house music. As all real dj's know, you can't use a cd that has already been mixed by another dj. When I purchased Trax 20th anniversary cd there was no indication that the tracks listed were already mixed. This cd is totally useless to me. There should be some sort of indication letting the consumer know if the track listing is mixed or individual tracks.
