Traxxas E-Revo RTR Electric Monster Truck

Since the introduction of the nitro Revo back around 2005, lots of folk wondered when Traxxas would release an electric version. That wait is over, as the new E-Revo is here!

This new monster is very nearly all-new! the only bits that it shares with the nitro Revo are the front and rear suspension assemblies (which are a groundbreaking design, STILL!). Everything between them has been re-thought, and along with the new rear wing and body. Even the wheels are new! Under the body, there is a two brushed motor design, sealed, waterproof receiver box and ESC, and even the steering servos are sealed. What all this means is the E-Revo can be blasted through water and mud puddles without fear of electrical failure!

The EVX-2 ESC and twin Titan motors put out good power, and have a top speed of 22 MPH. While this may not appear very fast, it's all about acceleration. The new E-Revo is pretty zippy in that department, and should supply all the necessary thrills with every pull of the throttle trigger!

The Revo's suspension deserves special mention, as it is waaay ahead of the competition. No one as yet has released a superior suspension design. The new E-Revo can be driven in places that would up-end any other monster truck (including Traxxas' other trucks!). The E-Revo just soaks up big jumps and landings, turns with more control and makes very rough ground seem nice and smooth.

This truck just begs to be modified! There are numerous parts houses that are releasing aftermarket parts for the E-Revo as I write this. My own E-Revo has received the parts makeover! On went a new brushless motor and ESC combo that has increased the E-Revo's top speed by 25 MPH, and a number of more durable suspension parts as well as new wheels and tires. Another great thing about the E-Revo is that when fully loaded with all the aforementioned parts and two high current LiPo batteries, the truck is lighter than either the nitro Revo and the new E-Maxx (I have the same motor and ESC combo in my E-Maxx, and the E-Revo out-accelerates it)!

There are some who will race the new E-Revo, and with a few (VERY few) tweaks, the E-Revo will be a weapon at your local track. Now here's the best part, the new E-Revo is roughly $150.00 to $200.00 cheaper than the nitro version (in this day and age, can't argue with THAT!). Though you will have to purchase two battery packs and a good charger to get it going out of the box, it sure beats the cost of nitro fuel and an abundance of glow plugs that you would have to buy for a nitro truck in the long haul.

The new E-Revo is the best monster truck and value available anywhere. It does everything better than any other monster truck out there, can be raced with little effort, is a great basher, and is more affordable to boot! I have been a long time Traxxas fan, and this truck is the best reason why!

I'll cut straight to it. If money is a concern then R/C is not for you.

That said the eREVO is worth every dollar!
This thing is durable! I spent 2 weeks looking at reviews and video's and the end result is that when you compare an RC you are comparing to the eREVO. They all come back to ??? vs eREVO.

Save your self some trouble get an eREVO.

I could review the tech but you can look those up. I'll tell you how I use it.

First, I run my eREVO stock on 7 Cell 4200 batteries. I've used the supplied spring in the box to stiffen the suspension. And I've raised the A-ARM to the highest setting from stock.
That is the extent of what I have done.

How do I run it:
We have a hard granite field with a looser top soil with about a 15 foot drop in it where a dried out lagoon would be in rainy season. We run full speed dives with the truck off the edge. *BIG AIR* It lands and rolls (sometimes) and about 50% of the time lands upright. We then turn it around and run it up and out. My previous Truggy broke an A-arm EVERY time we ran. This thing doesn't even glance at the hill.
Additionally, we deal with rain gulley's up to about 2 feet deep that we like to run across, no jump required just alot of speed. But if you don't make it your basically running the truck into a dirt wall.

So how's it hold up?
I've had to replace one part in 15 runs. I showed off to some friends that it would do wheelie's on asphalt and during that time the torque from the motor twisted and broke a yoke on the rear drive train.
$5 to replace and about 10 minutes with the included tools and I was back running.

I can't stress this enough. This thing takes a beating! I'm not running speed runs on concrete. I'm running off road 2-15 foot jumps at top speed which is about 20+ stock. This thing rolls bounces and basically shakes regularly.

Comparison:
So I can compare it to two vehicles that are entry and the Revo 3.3 Nitro. This is how it breaks down.

Entry Truggy:
Out classed. Truggy is fun and if your going to race on a bouncy track with smooth surfaces it's going to be alot of fun learning to drive. Don't expect it to be durable, it's not. You will break alot of front end parts. eREVO... won't turn as sharp but will be laping the truggy after it has gone back for new parts.

Traxxas Slash:
This is a really good entry truck and I'd recommend it to anyone looking to start the hobby. That said when you put it next to the eRevo your smaller, slower and more prone to flip. Durability is pretty good but as you tune it up you break more. So when your going same speed and things as a eREVO you prolly should have bought the eREVO first.

Revo 3.3:
This is the real comparison. I start with the obvious Nitro is a maintenance thing (you'll either love it or not). Let's talk performance.
These vehicles are now basically the same just different power plant. So the difference, torque! the "E" will beat the 3.3 every time off the line. the Nitro is actually faster at 50 ft but the spin up makes it not as good on short burst runs. I'm sure you can again "tune this" but eREVO is this out of the box. Other than this difference your not going to see much. I've heard that Nitro is more expensive... I haven't seen it!

Costs:
Don't be fooled by the price of the car (any electric) Figure out the cost of the batteries and charger.
A base running config for the eREVO is going to cost:
$450 eREVO
$130 Batteries($65 x2) 7 cell
$40 charger (single battery- Figure $70 for a dual charger)

Base cost to run $620 and your going to want another set of batteries as this will only get you 20 minutes usually.

So the summary:
The ERevo is a fun but expensive vehicle that will take nearly everything your going to push at it from a basher's perspective. Your going to spend heavily for the batteries but then your going to run without issues. There is next to no maintenance, compressed air on the engines after the dusty runs (or wet)

I run this thing 5 days a week at lunch (4 batteries) I run with 2 others that have Slash and Revo 3.3 we all enjoy it but the Nitro Revo's are constantly being tuned. They lose the idle setting, they stall, bad glow plugs. If you enjoy that then it's no big deal.
Personally, I like to drive mine!

I cannot add much more than the other reviews other than "this is awesome"

It is very durable and can be upgraded to brushless for about $300 (MambaMax pro). Just a motor, speed controller, pinion gear, and you will need a chase vehicle just to keep up. I am kind of disappointed I could not build it, but I guess that's just another reason to look for good mods. I am so glad I am working my way into the faster speeds as this car can very easily get away from you, it is amazingly fast and way fun. It's a bit too fast for the inexperienced or little ones. If you don't crash it, this car will not disappoint.
