I've only had this for a couple months now, but I love it! If you want something that's gonna get your kids (boys mostly) outside and off that PS3 or Internet, get them this! It's a great father/son activity too. It is SUPER fast, but you'll spend about $500 up front, including the car, battery and charger (not included). I highly recommend LiPo batteries and 7.4v is just fine to start with. MaxAmps are the most well-known for these at the moment.

You won't believe how fast this thing is. It blows away nitro cars and is much easier to care for. Works equally well on grass, dirt or road. This isn't like the older and slower electric R/C's. This goes 45mph out of the box (7.4v LiPo) and up to 70mph with some tinkering/upgrades/11.1v battery. The brushless motor is what really makes this different. If your son really gets into it, you will be spending more on "hopups", including aluminum parts. Most parts are plastic and hold up well, but after a while, they do break, especially if you keep hitting curbs. Take a look on YouTube and search for "Rustler VXL" (no quotes) to see it in action. HIGHLY recommended as a holiday gift, but if it's snowy where you are, you might not want to run it unless you protect the electronics with balloons or other means. Other than that, it's pretty ok to run in the snow.

I would recommend this for 14 and up, just because of the price. LiPo batteries also should be only used with adult supervision. You can get less dangerous & less expensive (half the price) NIMH packs, but they are slower, give half the run time and are heavier.

Of course you can always buy this for yourself if you don't have a son to share it with. It will really bring out the kid in you.

I would recommend getting optional parts from the many stores and companies offering these parts, to make the car more durable, and much faster "Lipo batteries"
fixing the car is half the fun and very educational for your kid....

Great car, you dont have the all the problems that come with a nitro car, just charge the battery, connect it to the car, and GO!!!

We've had this car one week and have already had to replace three parts. The first one broke after 1/2 hour. You can tell when you look at the replacement parts that they are higher quality (thicker!!) than the ones that come standard. They are cheap but its an inconvenience. VERY fast, very fun, but disappointed with the durability.
