Book Description

From the award-winning author of Taming the Wolf and Recipe for Temptation comes a novella about secrets, forbidden passion, and the devastating consequences of betrayal....

Sterling and Celeste Wolf have been married for sixteen years. Although Sterling is the ideal husband and father, he can’t give Celeste the material trappings she secretly craves. And then she meets Grant Rutherford—a sexy, brilliant surgeon at the hospital where she works. Grant is everything Celeste has ever wanted in a man, and the sizzling chemistry between them takes her breath away. But she loves her husband and children, and the last thing she wants to do is hurt them. But when she and Grant succumb to their mutual attraction one night, Celeste is forced to make a heartbreaking choice between the life she and Sterling have built—and the life she has always yearned for....

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wolf Pack March 22, 2011
By Linda Y
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the beginning story of The Wolf Pack that we oh so love! At the head of pack is Sterling, a homicide detective, his wife Celeste a surgical nurse and their two sons Michael and Marcus. We get to see the start when money was a definite issue and they struggled just like everyday folk, then things turn rocky when Celeste falls in love with Grant, a nuerosurgeon at her job. This was an eye opening book for those of us who didn't care for Celeste because we saw that she really was a good wife and mother who loved her family but fell in love with Grant bringing the phrase "the heart wants what the heart wants" to life. It was also good to see what she and Grant had was love and not just lust and she wasn't the gold digger I thought she was. Of course it also made me love Sterling more in how he handled the whole situation with reserve and maturity. Maureen also introduced us to Sterling's brother Stanton and his family, can't wait for his & Prissy's story. So much story for $2.99, a total steal!

5.0 out of 5 stars Treacherous March 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Treacherous. It answered many questions regarding Taming of the Wolf. Ms Smith did a fantastic job of allowing us to be able to connect with the characters. She also made the setting of the story very realistic with how many families are struggling to make ends meet and how their pride can sometimes get in the way of making a situation worse. I particularly liked Sterling because he put his hurt and anger aside to help his sons adjust, while also teaching his sons to respect their mother. I hope that since we were introduced to Sterling's brother, there will be more to come in the Wolf series.

5.0 out of 5 stars DEPRESSING!!!!!!!! October 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
All I have to say is ARE YOU SERIOUS? After reading the previous books, hinting at the strained relationship between Celeste and Marcus you say, okay, parents get divorced, kids suffer, maybe take sides if they think one parent was done wrong......Well they didn't punish her enough. I read this story thinking I would sympathize with both Sterling whom I already love and Celeste who might be being unfairly judged...not the case. I have never disliked a woman more than I did her. Sterling had been nothing short of awesome from the time she turned to him during her moment of need when they were kids, up until the day she traumatized their youngest child. He was sooooo hot. He tried to be a good, attentive, loving husband (which was so wonderfully illustrated in this book), he was an excellent, hands on father and a hard worker. She still was not satisfied. I wanted to read this and hope to feel her pain, NO. She was greedy and selfish and she deserved to be shunned by her family and friends. To turn everyone's lives upside down and still claim to love them all is just not acceptable. I'm so glad things turned out the way they did in Recipe for Temptation. I was happy before I knew the back story but know I wish there could have been some happy dancing and maybe the rubbing of certain peoples noses in the situation. I was so sad for the children especially Marcus. How do you erase things like that from mind. This book was so good but extremely, extremely sad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story October 20, 2011
By D. Lee
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I always wanted to know the story behind Sterling and Celeste's break up. Before reading their story I almost felt sorry for Celeste, but after reading their story I Hate That Selfish, Self-serving heartless, money grubbing wench. I felt no sympathy for her at all and I disliked Grant even more. Grant may have been more successful and had money, but he was never half the man Sterling was. I loved Sterling and he deserve so much better. He truly was the better man. Celeste was always more concerned about what she didn't have than appreciating the great man she was blessed to get, but never deserved. There was no excuse for her actions and Grant was truly a home-wrecker. They both put themselves in temptations way. Celeste was weak....Weak willed, weak minded and weak moral-ed. First she turns to Sterling on the rebound then traps him into marriage with the oldest trick in the book, yet she still wasn't satisfied. Women like her turn good men bitter and make it hard for the Right woman who comes along next. She was a disgrace. She ruined Sterling's future and chances to go to college, but being a true man of character and a stand up guy, he did the right thing. I believe he grew to love Celeste, although I have no doubt he didn't love her initially. Marriage takes work and nurturing just like a garden. Sterling was a Hero, however no matter how you slice it Grant was a toad and Celeste was a garden tool. They deserved each other. Great story though...I love Maureen Smith's style. LONG LIVE THE WOLF PACK!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for "Wolf Pack" fans! March 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was great read for anyone who's read Maureen's other books about the Wolf brothers (Recipe for Seduction and Taming of the Wolf) and their friend, Quinten (Tempt Me at Midnight). Maureen is hands down one of the greatest romance writers of our time. Please read her other books first as this one is somewhat a companion for the others. Don't worry--you'll get through them quickly because they are all good! My only complaint was it was too short! I think it was meant to be, though, so that's just a warning for you all because I think you should read. I don't think there's anything shocking or new in this book, but it's fascinating to see Celeste and Sterling's story played out. Thank you, Maureen!
