Book Description

April 1, 2007
In this unique journey into traditional Aboriginal life and culture, a European business-management professor and an Aboriginal elder collaborate to create a powerful and original model that western societies can use to build environmentally sustainable organizations, communities, and ecologies based upon the same Aboriginal traditions that allowed the Aborigines to create sustainable societies in very fragile landscapes.

Review

This book may prove a tipping point' for many people...this is one of the most thought-provoking books I have read in the last few years.' Brian Henshall, Emeritus Professor of Management, University of Auckland."The book becomes a fascinating cross-cultural dialogue...a bold attempt to show the intelligence of Aboriginal culture and values and to also show how much the world's oldest living culture can teach us about the world we inhabit today'National Indigenous Times

5.0 out of 5 stars Learning from the Aboriginals, April 9, 2007
This review is from: Treading Lightly: The Hidden Wisdom of the World's Oldest People (Paperback)
For a long time we thought that the Australian Aboriginals almost
vanished because of their inferior culture compared to ours. Treading
Lightly convincingly demonstrates that the bad fate of this indigenous
people had nothing to do with the superiority of our culture or
knowledge. On the contrary, the Aboriginal culture has existed much
longer than the Western civilization. The battle was mainly fought on a
biological level, where our diseases proved to be stronger. Having
realized that the Aboriginal culture is the most sustainable that has so
far existed on Earth, Sveiby asks himself and Tex Scuthorpe what are the
elements of sustainable knowledge. Being an expert on Knowledge
Management Sveiby goes forward to suggest how modern organizations could
become truly sustainable. Treading lightly is obviously a path breaking
argument in a discourse that has just begun.
