This review is from: How to Make a Treadle Operated Wood-Turning Lathe (Workshop Equipment Manual) (Paperback)
I bought this hoping it would describe traditional treadle lathes, but it is in fact a very clear and practical set of instructions for welding up a steel treadle lathe. The lathe would probably work just fine, and should be worth the effort. Intended for third world outreach programs or missionary efforts to enable people to have a lathe that doesn't require electricity. Like I said, entirely practical but definitely not Roy Underhill and the Woodwright's Shop.
