Best Treadmill Book Available,
By Dave Olson (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Treadmill Training for Runners (Paperback)
I have purchased a couple of treadmill books. There are not many available. I have been disappointed in the other books. They were either advertisments for a brand of treadmill or were not intended for runners. This is by far the best and really the only book I have found that contains usuable info for running on the treadmill. I do a lot of my training on the treadmill and I found a lot of good tips in this book. I am a marathon runner and am using the marathon schedules. There is also a lot of information for beginning runners, which I did not need, but there appears to be great info in this book for all levels of runner. Highly recommended for any treadmill runner.

Programs for all levels,
By William Rogers (Orlando, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Treadmill Training for Runners (Paperback)
I do not usually write reviews, but I noticed a previous review that criticized this book for not having a complete program. I am somewhat confused by that comment because the entire last half of this book is dedicated to complete training programs for everyone from beginning runners to competitive runners. There are programs all the way from learning to run, 5K, 10K to racing a full marathon. This is a well written and entertaining book that has been very useful to me and my family.

Made me a runner,
By
This review is from: Treadmill Training for Runners (Paperback)
This book was a great help to me in becomeing a runner. Due to my schedule I am usually unable to run outside. I must run on the treadmill, but could not motivate myself to do it. This book gave me a lot of excellent tips on the mistakes I was making when running on a treadmill and also how to correct them. And even more importantly it helped keep me motivated with several different training programs and a whole slew of workouts. I am never bored now. I have been able to improve my fitness enough that I now consider myself a runner. I even trained for a weekend 5K using the workouts here. I highly recommned this book if you must do a lot of your training on the treadmill.

I completed my first 5K and just finished my first marathon using the training programs in this book. And I did almost all of my training on the treadmill. IT WORKS!

Great for treadmill users,
By Tanya Rogers (Ft. Collins, CO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Treadmill Training for Runners (Paperback)
I found this to be a very informative book on a subject that has little available information. The author has done a good job of covering all of the specific needs of a treadmill runner. I especially like the various workouts that are designed for the treadmill. I would recommend this book for anyone that works out on a treadmill.

The truth about treadmill training,
This review is from: Treadmill Training for Runners (Paperback)
I have coached runners for over 20 years. Several years ago I began using the treadmill as a training tool for competitive runners. I received a lot of criticism from others who did not understand how useful a treadmill can be for competitive training. Finally, there is is a book that gives the facts, both postive and negative about treadmill training. I have seen a few other books on treadmill training, but the others were either a commercial for a brand of treadmills or simple training books for walkers. I found this book to be very useful and helpful to my athletes. The one thing I wish this book had is specific recommendations about which brand of treadmills are best. There is a buyers guide, but no specific recommendations. Maybe that is nitpicking, but it would have been helpful. I would have given it five stars if it had those recommendations. But overall a very good book.

Im a multi-marathoner who happens to enjoy spending one or two workouts a week on the treadmill, so I thought this would be an interesting and effective book to compliment my training program. However, it's actually made me reconsider spending any more time trapped on the belt! The first third of the book is pretty much for complete novices to running in general, let alone treadmill running. It also has a lot of information on shopping for a treadmill, the construction/repair of equipment, etc. I plodded through all the medical disclaimers, repetitive precautionary advice, running vocabulary definitions, basic explanations of how to determine target heart reats, and other information that was of no use to my own particular needs...hoping that the actual workout programs themselves would be worth the purchase price of the book. Unfortunately, the assorted workout programs "customized" to runners of all fitness levels and goals also managed to disappoint me. I suppose for the pure novice this book will offer some guidance (if not a little confusion, too) but for anyone with running experience, most of its content is moot.

I used to run marathons a decade ago and now two years after having a baby I'm getting back into running. I love my treadmill but haven't really known how to use it for training. This book has a great set of training plans for recreational runners, people wanting to lose weight and competitive runners. It also has 5K, 10Km half and full marathon training plans. I gave it 4 stars out of 5 because when read cover to cover it is rather repetitive, but perhaps that it is because most people will read the sections that apply to their interests and training goals. I checked it out of the library, but I want my own copy as a reference.

I spent a lot of time on treadmills at the gym,and wanted to make sure I was doing things right. I was hoping this book could give me some insight into tread mill training and get me motivated for the winter. The first half of the book is full of basic advice for treadmill workouts. Really basic, just short of telling want shoes to buy basic. There is some stuff on the mechanics of a treadmill, but the training stuff (you can control your pace, incline for wind resistance, put the TV where you can see it) was stuff you would figure out after your first 10 mins. Most of it you could find on line in Runners World. The second part was training programs for various races. I havn't started any yet(Im still in physcial theapy) but I do look forward to this. From an overview, though, again they dont look that much different from what you could find anywhere else. The book was a light easy read, and got me thinking about running again, but it didnt really tell me much I didn't already know. True, the information is consoladated in one place, and its not too expensive, but an experienced runner wouldnt get much out of it. |
