1.0 out of 5 stars This is not the book you show or the one I ordered!, December 15, 2009

I read the opening sentence presented on Amazon's site and checked it by the original book I have with a 1957 copyright. They were the same, so I felt confident that I was getting the genuine Treasure Island. What I received was a child's version in a totally different style. I didn't save anything over buying the original at my local Barnes and Noble store. Why do they advertise one thing and send another?! Be very careful.

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice introduction to a classic story, but beware..., May 16, 2010
Buyers should be aware that is an abridged version of the classic tale.

This edition captured the imagination of my 7-year old. It's a terrific stepping stone for this age group, but should not be reviewed as if it were Robert Louis Stevenson's original classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Treasure Island (Stepping Stone), July 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I teach students with special needs. Stepping Stone books give me modified classic literature that stays fairly close to the original text. This allows my students to focus more on comprehension skills, and less on "getting through the book". Treasure Island is a favorite combined with an overabundance of "pirating" activities that for a brief period of time my students get to become pirates. Comprehension soars. It is the best!
