Should have paid attention to the reviews, September 12, 2008
This review is from: The Treasure Hunter's Gem & Mineral Guides to the U.S.A.: Where & How to Dig, Pan and Mine Your Own Gems & Minerals: Southeast States (Paperback)
Just not very good and the other reviews give the details. A Google search would be better and cheaper than buying this book. If you know nothing about rockhounding and want to go to pay sites only then this book might be of some use.

criticism a bit harsh, good for a start, April 20, 2011
This review is from: The Treasure Hunter's Gem & Mineral Guides to the U.S.A.: Where & How to Dig, Pan and Mine Your Own Gems & Minerals: Southeast States (Paperback)
I purchased this book and another despite the bad reviews. I am not an experienced rock hound by any means, but found a view helpful hints in this book. And in order to learn the art of rockhounding it is a good way to start with a visit to a few fee mines to get ones' feet wet in this hobby. Eckerts' book are far more detailed, but you have to know a bit of the hobby before ,and some helpful hints from people working at fee mines come in handy for beginners like me.
