4.0 out of 5 stars Super, But a Little Dated
I loved reading the Hardy Boys growing up but my son finds them a little tame and old fashioned.

I found a great series by RT Byrum which is similar to the Hardy Boys but with new modern toys, gadgets and gizmos. In fact, I think the stories are even better written and more entertaining.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quality-good
The books were in great condition! However, the set indicated it was a box set and a box was not included as it appeared in the picture.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!!!!!!!!!, February 28, 2006
This review is from: The Tower Treasure/The House on the Cliff/The Secret of the Old Mill/The Missing Chums/Hunting for Hidden Gold/The Shore Road Mystery (Hardy Boys 1-6) (Hardcover)
I personally think these novels are some of the best ever. They are filled with action packed adventures. They keep you flying through the pages to find the answers to the mysteries. They even keep you laughing at the Hardy Boy's friend Chet Morton and his jalopy. These are MUST read action packed novels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic young peoples novels, July 5, 2007

This review is from: The Tower Treasure/The House on the Cliff/The Secret of the Old Mill/The Missing Chums/Hunting for Hidden Gold/The Shore Road Mystery (Hardy Boys 1-6) (Hardcover)
For a wonder, I never read a Hardy boys novel when I was growing up, probably because they weren't on the shelves at the librarywhere I got most of my books. Of course I saw the Disney versions and the tv series, but I never read one of the books until I was sixty one years old. Then while shopping online I found this boxed set and decided to buy it and read what the books were like.
The first thing I found was that these are not the original versions of the stories written in the late twenties and early thirties. The giveaway was when some of the villains stole a case of transister radios, which were not even invented til long after the forties. So this is the series rewritten in the sixties.
That said, the stories were ingenious and well written. Also, I liked the group of friends that were always ready to help the heroes with their adventures. Television lost out on a good thing when they did not mention these guys and girls on the shows.
After reading through the books, I passed them on to some of my friends, who are eagerly reading them, too.
These books are a good read and a fine memento of a time when it was considered possible for a pair of teenagers to take on a gang of criminals and not get killed out of hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting History, Great Books!, December 25, 2006
This review is from: The Tower Treasure/The House on the Cliff/The Secret of the Old Mill/The Missing Chums/Hunting for Hidden Gold/The Shore Road Mystery (Hardy Boys 1-6) (Hardcover)
I have the original 1-59 books, given over the years as Christmas presents. These make greats collector's items, and I love every story. These first six are largely considered among the best works of a series that extends into over 200 books. Easy to read, and fast, these books will spark any young childs imagination.

This set of books has caused quite a stir in our home! My boys (8 and 6) love to hear us read to them so much that bedtime has often been delayed because of "just one more chapter!"

I think the Hardy Boys books in general are great bedtime reading to children. My kids loved them and this set of 6 makes it easy to find a number of the books. You can simply read a chapter a night; it's not too long or too short. The language is simple and builds vocabulary. Each chapter provides a nice high point at the end to stop for interest in the next day's chapter and the behavior of the characters are classic.

These books are numbered and there are some 50 of them. I only have a few, but from what I have they have all been good.

My [...]son loved these books. I've always had a hard time finding books that keep him interested all the way through. He picked up the first book and read it cover to cover.

I bought these for my granson. I want to see if he enjoys them and if he does, I would like to purchase some more of these books for him. I got the better price from Amazon.com I would like to see these in a series of 6 books at a time for the same price as the ones from 1-6 series. Thank you
