5.0 out of 5 stars A feel good western with everything...
This romantisized Western from a more innocent time has it all, The good guy is rugged Western poineer "Old Shatterhand" (played nicely by Lex Barker) who, not unlike the Lone Ranger, has an Indian sidekick. Together they stop the band of really bad bad guys, led by Herbert Lom, who will stop at nothing to get the title treasure. Of course there's plenty of action, funny...

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible quality and wrong format
The movie is great. This DVD is a copy of the video tape. The quality, however, is terrible especially if watched on an HD TV. You can clearly tell it is a copy of a video tape because of the lines on the bottom of the screen. Furthermore this is full screen (4:3) while the original movie was made in 2.35:1 format. I am wondering why amazon.com is selling this copy of the...

I am wondering why amazon.com is selling this copy of the movie while Amazon.de is selling a pristine Blu-Ray copy of the movie in English (or in German with English subtitles) which plays on American Blu-Ray players. Furthermore, the copy sold on Amazon.de is in 2.35:1 format which is the format of the original movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Western!, March 15, 2010
This review is from: The Treasure of Silver Lake (DVD)
I always enjoyed Lex Barker as Tarzan, and I found him equally good as the hero in this western. Along with his partner friend, the indian Winnetou, they remind one of the Lone Ranger and Tonto. They are up against bad guy Colonel Brinkley, played by Herbert Lom, who played the long suffering Chief Inspector Dreyfus in the Pink Panther series, as well as countless other roles. Colonel Brinkley wants the other half of the map that tells of the location of the treasure of silver lake, and he's willing to kill to get it.Fred Engel, who's father has been killed by Colonel Brinkley, vows revenge. However, Fred's girl Ellen and her father get kidnapped by Brinkley's bandits. Old Shatterhand (Lex Barker) and Winnetou aid Fred in planning a rescue, fighting a battle at a fortified farm, and confronting hostle indians. Who will get the treasure of gold? Anyway, there's a lot of action and a couple of comic sidekicks ; it all ads up to a fun western.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spagetti Western From Germany, August 29, 2010
This review is from: The Treasure of Silver Lake (DVD)
While most foreign westerns that became popular in the 60s are from Italy, this one is from Germany. i suppose it would be a sauerkraut western then. Anyway, it's fun and has our old Tarzan friend Lex Barker as well as characer actor Herbert Lom as the villian. The story revolves around the legend of a secret Indian treasure. Bad guy Lom wants the map to said treasure and he will stop at nothing to get it. All in all, it's a fun, colorful western for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sort of Like the Lone Ranger..., February 10, 2011
This review is from: The Treasure of Silver Lake (DVD)
Lex Barker and his indian sidekick Winnetuo remind me of the Lone Ranger series. They are of course good guys in the old west. The bad guy is veteran actor Herbert Lom, the doctor from The Dead Zone, and many other films. Everyone is after a hidden treasure, and Lom's character will stop at nothing to get it. Of course, Lex and Winnetuo want the treasure to go to its rightful owner. There's plenty of action and fun in this German spagetti (if there is such a thing) western.

I had one Karl May Euro western Rampage at Apache Wells and was keen to get more but heck what is thisrubbish check out the faaaaaaaaaaaaake cactus stuck at and in the line of fire the ones in the entrance to the airport in Memphis look more real the cast are annoying to the point of wishing they were all dead Lex Barker who I normally like is walking around the sets looking like he would prefer to be somewhere else not only a money waster but a time waster avoid this like the mumps Al Watts Radio presenter Australia
