Readers become writers, and Christina Dodd has always been a reader. She reads everything, but because she loves humor, she likes romance best. A woman wants things like world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on mutual understanding and love. A man wants things like a Craftsman router with attachments, undisputed control of the TV remote, and a red Corvette which will miraculously make his bald spot disappear. When Christina's first daughter was born, she told her husband she was going to quit work and write a book. It was a good time to start a new career, because how much trouble could one little infant be?

Ha! It took ten years, two children and three completed manuscripts before her first novel, CANDLE IN THE WINDOW, was published to great acclaim. In the years since, she has enjoyed writing witty, emotional novels for every reader: suspense, historical romances, paranormal romances, romantic suspense. Her stories have been translated into 25 languages, won the prestigious Golden Heart and RITA Awards and been called the year's best by Library Journal. Christina Dodd herself has been a clue in the Los Angeles Times crossword puzzle (11/18/05, # 13 Down: Romance Novelist named Christina.) Publishers Weekly praises her style that 'showcases Dodd's easy, addictive charm and steamy storytelling.' With more than fifteen million of her books in print, her legions of fans always know that when they pick up a Christina Dodd book, they know they've found a story "For the wild at heart!"

Christina Dodd is married to a man with all his hair and no Corvette, but many Craftsman tools.

Well written and a good story line.

I don't know if my book was edited but it seemed like some of the story was missing.
Perhaps because the characters don't have a connection themselves?

This was a great story as well as a very interesting background into the early days of California prior to the annexation by the United States.
Katherine Maxwell traveled to California from Boston to be wed to Tobias a man she dealt well with and offered her a chance to escape from family bondage. Fate had it that her marriage would be short lived and, one week after the wedding, Tobias was murdered. His best friend Damian de la Sola would make sure that Katherine would be looked after, and he brought her to his hacienda and let her mourn there.
Damian did this, not only for his very best friend, but for himself, as he had known from the moment he first saw her coming off the ship that he would burn for his best friends wife. Being the gentleman, he would have to hide his true feelings, and he would honor her year of mourning. He was honor-bound to protect her but would be relentless in her pursuit before he would let her leave.
Finding out that it was the secret of a fabled treasure that Tobias had been killed for, the 'treasure of the Padres' They would both follow their destinies and find that the real treasure was their love for one another.
I enjoyed the characters and their personalities. Katherine, though reeling from having her husband murdered in front of her, was really quite feisty when she wasn't fainting at the sight of blood. Damian was the very hot, arrogant, and very sexy Spanish lover. The scene between her cousin, and the two of them after they married is priceless! Super story. I highly recommend this book.

The hero, Don Damien De La Sola, is a hearthrob hero to die for. You will fall in love with him ten pages within the book. And Katherine is a typical sensible heroine typical in Christina Dodd's books. There was good chemistry between the hero and heroine, and their love was so real. Anyone considering this book, i'm telling you, you will not be dissapointed in this one.

After skimming some of the reviews on this site for the book, I definetely got the impression that you either love this book or just like it. For me, I just liked it. I gave it 3 stars but it was really closer to 2 1/2. After reading it I walked away frustrated and disappointed! There was so much potential for this book and unfortunately Christina didnt "bring it". The setting of spanish California with its hot, sweltering days and even steamier nights, fierce and passionate latino men, should have left me scorched and begging for more. But, needless to say I came away feeling luke warm and almost bored. I've read many of Christina's books and for the most part have learned to deal with her gaps in story plots and her tendency to leave out details and assume the reader will fill in the blanks. But this one was harder to figure out on my own simply because I felt no emotional connection between Damian and Katherine. There was hardly any dialogue between the two and hardly any intimacy. I found lackluster sex scenes and even duller conversation-what little there was of it. When their alone time wasnt being interuppted for one reason or another, I found myself confused on where things had led and would end up having to reread parts 2 or 3 times and still came away wondering what in the world just happened. Damians and Katherines actions and feelings were sporadic and jerky, coming out of left field somewhere. Katherine especially frustrated me with her sensible, almost cold and impersonal attitude towards Damian. But, she didnt surprise me since she is often the type of heroine that Christina typically uses.Read more ›

I typically love Christina Dodd's books. I have many of them and am constantly re-reading. However, the last few I've read have been a disappointment. This one is no exception. I'm not sure what is happening, but I'm not feeling any connection with the characters. Perhaps because the characters don't have a connection themselves? Without giving you a synopsis (which is not a review), the story lacked development, attraction and likeable characters. I'm sorry if this is harsh, but I wanted my money back.
