5.0 out of 5 stars Kindergarten students love this book!
I'm a public school librarian, and The Treasure Tree is, by far, the most favored read-aloud of my Kindergarten children. The children identify with the book's characters because the personalities of each are so well-defined. We even set up a "Treasure Tree" in our library two years ago, and the children had opportunities to earn a "golden key"...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great story, bad condition
I bought this book because I used to read it as a child. I loved it and it is still a great book that I would recommend to anyone, especially parents.
However, I purchased a used copy from atlanta-book-companty that said it was "like new" and "in good condition." When I got it, it had major water damage at the top. The pages had stuck together and when pulled...

The children identify with the book's characters because the personalities of each are so well-defined. We even set up a "Treasure Tree" in our library two years ago, and the children had opportunities to earn a "golden key" which they could trade for candy from the tree. I heartily recommend this book for elementary school library collections. Guidance counselors enjoy it, too!

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful experience for every child!, July 27, 1999

I am a school teacher and use this book as a starter to every year. The four characters use their individual abilities to find the Treasure and in the end realize the accomplishment they can make by working together! Wonderful for teaching cooperation and accepting the differences of others. I have a unit I would love to share with other teachers!

I have four kids.. age 8 - 11. I took this book on vacation with us, where we met up with friends who have 3 boys, 7 - 11. We read the book, over and over. I read it first, using different voices for the characters. Then, the kids read it aloud, with each child reading the chapter about the character most matching thier own personality. The results were hysterical.
This story touched each child so differently. Even the "cool" 11 year olds enjoyed the book, but even more, they enjoyed getting to know about the "psychology" of the different personalities. We took the identity test, and found the results very true! It gave a platform to discuss, at their level, how different personalities work together and against each other sometimes.
My friend's boy, (age 7) enjoyed the book so much, I had to leave it with him and buy another! Even two weeks after leaving that book behind, my children are referencing the personalities in this wonderful story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kids find comfort in this fun-filled book, December 11, 2004

I bought this book for my nephew last year, mainly because I thought his parents would get a kick out of it. My nephew is a very hard-worker, and he loves to please his parents. My neice, however, is rather strong-willed and fearless. They are so different that it has become a family joke. As my nephew, age 5, read this book, he found a message in it that has given him courage as well as an understanding of himself and the other people in his life. A year later, this is still his favorite book. He tells me about all of the characters and what each of their strengths are. I think it has helped him in his understanding of his own talents and gifts, and the idea that just because you may not excell at one thing that doesn't mean you are untalented. What a wonderful message for children. I am amazed at my nephew's ability to tie this to his own life, and I'm so happy that my gift gave him more than just a good story.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Treasure Tree is meaningful to kids of all ages., June 21, 2000

This review is from: The Treasure Tree: Helping Kids Understand Their Personality (Hardcover)
The Treasure Tree has touched my 3 year old's heart. We read a chapter before bed each night and she picks the chapter which she wants to hear. Even though the storyline is a bit advanced for her age, she seems to understand and delight in the theme of the value of unique personalities. And, as her Mom, I don't grow weary of reading this story to her for the 100th time because I learn something new each reading as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Help Kids Understand Themselves and Others, January 15, 2007
This review is from: The Treasure Tree: Helping Kids Understand Their Personality (Hardcover)
Many companies have their employees take the Myers-Briggs or another personality inventory so that they can recognize their own strengths and weaknesses and be more understanding of their colleagues, friends, and even family members.

_The Treasure Tree_ by John and Cindy Trent and Gary and Norma Smalley helps children as young as two or three years to understand that people approach the world in different ways.

The story opens when four good friends, Lance the Lion, Honey the Golden Retriever, Chewy the Beaver, and Giggles the Otter, receive a treasure map from a wise owl. With the map are four riddles, each of which will lead to a key that will get the friends closer to the Treasure Tree.

In the course of their adventure the animals learn that the qualities that make them different from one another are the very qualities that make their quest successful. Not one of the animals could have found the Treasure Tree alone.

At the end of the book is a brief personality checklist (five questions per animal). Understanding the characteristics of their own personalities -- and the personalities of their family members and friends -- can help children get along with and appreciate people around them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let kids understand the value of different personalities, June 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Treasure Tree: Helping Kids Understand Their Personality (Hardcover)
This is a very nice book (not only for kids), letting the reader and listener understand the value of different personalities. Kids are able to relate to one of the characters by learning about their respective strengths, and weaknesses.

5.0 out of 5 stars An extraordinarily fun book about the value of friends!, January 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Treasure Tree: Helping Kids Understand Their Personality (Hardcover)
This is an exceptional book, filled with colorful descriptions of exploits and fun places that kids would love to experience for themselves! (Have you ever walked through a valley filled with blueberry pies, sampled cupcakes with pickle frosting-Yuck!, or tasted the treats near a peppermint waterfall?)

My daughter has spent many days recreating the places and events depicted in this book in order to "live" the adventures in her own home.
