5.0 out of 5 stars The Last In A Great Series From Stardust Of Canada, September 9, 2007
By
AvidOldiesCollector (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Treasured Tunes, Vol. 10 (Audio CD)
As indicated by myself and several others in the reviews of the previous nine volumes, this series has unfailingly presented, within the 20 tracks in each, several that you would not find that easily anywhere else, and with more than adequate sound quality along with informative (if not abundant) liner notes.

Each has also provided a few selections that did not make the U.S. national Billboard charts, but which did score to some degree in either or both the U.S. and Canada and, here and there, a B-side of a Billboard hit. To get those out of the way first, they are: I'm Gonna Move On by Del Shannon (the uncharted flip of his very minor, July 1962 # 99 Billboard Pop Hot 100 Cry Myself To Sleep; Lovin' Sound by Ian & Sylvia (circa 1967); and In The Still Of The Night by Eddie & The Evergreens (circa 1973).

Scarce tunes contained in this last volume are: Do You Mind? by Anthony Newley (# 91 Hot 100 in July 1960 from the British film Let's Get Married); Saturday Sunshine by Burt Bacharach (# 93 Hot 100 in August 1963 - Burt doesn't sing here (thankfully), rather it's a chorus); (Just Like) Romeo And Juliet by The Reflections (# 6 Hot 100 in May 1964 - not the grouo with the same name with seberal R&B hits in the 1970s); Run, Run, Run by The Gestures (# 44 Hot 100 in late 1964 and their only hit); Yesterday Man by Chris Andrews (# 94 Hot 100 in January 1966 and the only North American hit for this U.K. singer); Little Girl by The Syndicate Of Sound (# 8 Hot 100 in late summer 1966); and Lay A Little Lovin' On Me by Robin McNamara (# 11 Hot 100 in June 1970 for one of the original cast members of Hair).

All good things must come to an end and since this was issued in 1999 there doesn't appear to be any more on the horizon. Too bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be as popular as Ace and Eric reissues!, January 15, 2005
By
This review is from: Treasured Tunes, Vol. 10 (Audio CD)
I am a enthousiastic collector, and have almost all the Time Life rock n roll stuff, as well as ACE and Eric records cds of this era.
Honestly, if you go for 50s 60s songs, Ace and Eric records are unsurpassed, in their song selection and booklets info. But this is a highly forgotten collection that still hosts amazingly enough some songs that are no where else to be found. Ok some of them esp. of the 70s and 80s do not belong there, but that still leaves you with enough gemms I would say. So this whole series is excellent, and must have!
A few points why:
20 tracks per cd (Time life is also excellent, but you get 15 per cd!)
not the same old songs over again, but many rare and still excellent tracks!
last but not least good sound quality.
