4.0 out of 5 stars Someone's Treasure Is In Here, September 8, 2007
By
AvidOldiesCollector (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Treasured Tunes, Vol. 5 (Audio CD)
As with their series Hey! Look What Found, Stardust Productions of Canada offers up a collection of tunes that range from easily-available to almost impossible to find, mixed in with the off selection that charted only in Canada. The liner notes are minimal (there are none at all in the Hey! Look What I Found series) and the sound quality is generally adequate to good. Not in the class of releases by Eric Records or Amazon of London, certainly, but satisfactory to all bust the most hopeless audiophile for whom a slight crackle is unbearable.

The track listings above are badly garbled so, until that is corrected by Amazon I show theme here for your information, together with their chart performances: 1) White Silver Sands by Don Rondo with Billy Rock's orchestra - # 7 Billboard Pop Top 100 in summer 1957); 2) Oh Julie by The Crescendos (# 4 R&B/# 5 Top 100 in February/March 1958 - female voice by Janice Green); 3) Buddy by Jackie DeShannon (charted in Canada circa 1958); 4) Need You by Donny Owens (# 25 Billboard Pop Hot 100 in November 1958 with The Ben Denton Singers and featuring Duane Eddy on guitar); 5) Linda Lu by Ray Sharpe (# 11 R&B/# 47 Hot 100 featuring Duane Eddy and Al Casey on guitar); 6) Happy-Go-Lucky Me by Paul Evans (# 10 Hot 100 in June 1960); 7) Baby (You've Got What It Takes) by Brook Benton & Dinah Washington with the Belford Hendricks orchestra (# 1 R&B for TEN weeks/# 5 Hot 100 in early spring 1960); 8) Pink Chiffon by Mitchell Torok (# 69 Hot 100 in June 1960); 9) Corinna, Corinna by Ray Peterson (# 9 Hot 100 in December 1960); 10) Triangle by Janie Grant (# 29 Hot 100 in spring 1961); 11) Halfway To Paradise by Tony Orlando (# 39 Hot 100 in May 1961); 12) West Of The Wall by Miss Toni Fisher (# 37 Hot 100 in June 1962 - lyrics inspired by The Berlin Wall crisis); 13) Any Other Way by Jackie Shane (a charter only in Canada circa 1962); 14) My Little Girl by The Crickets (charted only in Canada circa 1963); 15) Surfin' Hootenanny by Al Casey (# 48 Hot 100 in summer 1963 with vocal by The K-C-Ettes); 16) I'm Gonna Love You Too by The Hullabaloos (# 56 Hot 100 in December 1964); 17) Elusive Butterfly by Bob Lind (# 5 Hot 100 in early 1966) 18) Little Arrows by Leapy Lee (# 16 Hot 100/# 38 Adult Contemporary (AC) in late 1968); 19) Playboy by Gene & Debbe (# 17 Hot 100 in Mrch/April 1968); 20) Master Jack by Four Jacks & A Jill (# 3 AC/# 18 Hot 100 in May 1968 for the South African group).

You will have a hard time finding, anywhere else, the tracks by Don Rondo, Donny Owens, Mitchell Torok, Tony Orlando, Gene & Debbe, and The Hullabaloos. Don't miss out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Should be as popular as Ace and Eric reissues!, January 15, 2005
By
This review is from: Treasured Tunes 5 (Audio CD)
I am a enthousiastic collector, and have almost all the Time Life rock n roll stuff, as well as ACE and Eric records cds of this era.

Honestly, if you go for 50s 60s songs, Ace and Eric records are unsurpassed, in their song selection and booklets info. But this is a highly forgotten collection that still hosts amazingly enough some songs that are no where else to be found. Ok some of them esp. of the 70s and 80s do not belong there, but that still leaves you with enough gemms I would say. So this whole series is excellent, and must have!

A few points why:

20 tracks per cd (Time life is also excellent, but you get 15 per cd!)

not the same old songs over again, but many rare and still excellent tracks!

last but not least good sound quality.
