This is a huge book. It's not the kind of book that you can read in bed at night. As mentioned in the preface, the size chosen matched as closely as possible the dimensions used by Disney animators. The paper is thick and the printing is gorgeous. I love seeing all of the sketches, final art and design decisions of some of my favorite animations. This book was printed and published to last a lifetime. I'd have to say this is my favorite Canemaker title, not for his text (which is minimal), but for the almost 300 large pages of artwork. A keeper.

Thought this book was a larger format with extensive coverage of animation art but when I recieved it found out it was a very small 4" x 4" pocket book. Each page does have drawings with captions or titles. Mainly an overview and collection of various drawings done by Disney's Nine Old Men and have been locked away for years. Interesting to see ideas developed through drawings.

This book is a treasure in itself. Lots of different production artwork ranging from animation drawings, story sketches, inspirational sketches, backgrounds, layouts, cel set ups, etc. All the major films from Snow White thru The Rescuers are covered as well as early short subjects. Not too surprisingly, later and lesser films like Sword in the Stone kind of get a short shrift here, but do get some good images. While not too common herein, artwork from some unfinished projects also appears. It's kind of odd that Disney doesn't want Song of the South available, but it never gets left out of art books like these and this is no exception.
I think of this as an excellent forerunner to the archive series that was published some 25 years later.

This would have been great if I had paid more attention and bought the large version. The "tiny folio" is just too small to see all of the details that go into the art work in this. It's about 4X4 inches. Entirely too small.
