Book Description

Rizzoli Art Guide September 7, 2010
Here is a thorough, easy-to-use guide to the vast and stunning collection of art and antiquities found in Egypt's archaeological paradise, the Valley of the Kings. The Tomb of Tutankhamun and its contents are featured prominently, as are the temples of Luxor and Karnak, the dromos, the Luxor Museum, the Chapel of Achoris, the Valley of Asasif, the Ramesseum, the Valley of the Queens, and the Colossi of Memnon. Dendera, Esna, Abydos Edfu, and Korn Ombo-all peripheral locations to the major sites-are included because their state of preservation makes them especially interesting for visitors and scholars. Weeks has spent his career documenting the regions and infuses this guide with a level of clarity and detail not previously achieved in a handbook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book!, September 27, 2009

This is a gorgeous book. The glossy color photos, and there are hundreds, are luscious. There's an abundance of detail and explanation - maybe too much for some. The weight of the book (565 glossy pages)does not make it an ideal travel companion, but it should be mandatory reading before a trip. It will help you decide what you want to see. If you've already taken your trip, then buy it as a momento, especially since there are no photos allowed in the tombs. Or, if you're an armchair traveller, you will love this book. Not only does it thoroughly cover Week's area of archeological excavation, the Valley of the Kings, but it covers all sites on the West Bank and in Luxor and all of the notable Temples outside of Luxor. Plus, there are beautiful detailed photos of tombs that are closed to the public. It's more an art book than a travel guide. Well worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kent Weeks The Treasures of Luxor, April 12, 2011

I found this an excellent guide, I felt I could hear Kent speaking as I read it.
It is a heavy book, and I hope to be able to bring it with me on my next trip to Luxor.
It is small enough/but heavy., but so beautifully written and photographed, I am deciding to scuttle some pairs of shoes to have it with me this time.
I have visited most of the temples and palaces over the last number of years, and now wish I had this book with me.
