This review is from: The Treasures of Tutankhamun (Hardcover)
the value of this book is not its narratives on the geography and history of ancient egypt; short, well written as they are. nor a comprehensive exploration of the treasures of tutankhamun's tomb. this interesting hardcover slipcased book reproduces in whole or in part some of the field notes and other documents kept by howard carter [called memorabilia by the author], typically ephemeral, in facsimile, as preserved in the griffith institute, cleverly attached to the books pages or tucked into pockets die cut into the pages of sturdy stock throughout the book. excerpts of diaries, maps, all sorts of interesting things. it's a hugely fun idea, beautifully executed. kids would love it if you could stand to let them touch it.
