Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 5 Up–This compendium is divided into categories: board games, card games, party games, games to play anywhere, indoor games, and outdoor games, and then subdivided into more focused categories within each color-coded section. Each entry includes step-by-step instructions, full-color photos, and clip-art decorations. Each one tells how many players are needed, what equipment is necessary, the difficulty of play, and how long a game typically lasts. The descriptions are concise, explaining exactly how to play in as few words as are necessary. The authors also provide the background and history of many of the games. Some of the entries will be familiar, such as Monopoly and Go Fish, but many are not as commonly known, such as Shogi and Botticelli. Games of skill, of chance, and of athletic ability are included. A useful and fun-packed volume.–Cynde Suite, Bartow County Library System, Adairsville, GA
