5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic arrangements: gorgeous chords, not hard to play, March 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Treasury of Great Show Tunes: A Reader's Digest Songbook (Spiral-bound)
A good collection of songs, but what makes this collection really shine are the arrangements. Non-standard, gorgeous chord sequences, rhythmic interest, but still reasonably easy to play. And fun to sing along with.My favorite songbook for sight-reading practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tunes to share in the home and in the lounge, November 27, 2010

This review is from: Treasury of Great Show Tunes: A Reader's Digest Songbook (Spiral-bound)
I've have purchased several "Reader's Digest" books over the past several years. The main reason for the very first one was that it contributed to my lounge performance with music I enjoy and tunes that people haven't heard in a while. Young or old, customers seem to really appreciate tunes that they somehow knew in their head, but may not have heard in years. Just for quick reference tunes like: Stardust, I'll take Manhattan, Moonglow and many more----I grew up listening to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Doors etc:: But these older tunes were always in the back of my mind somehow. I spent about 25 years as a professional musician playing all the top dance tunes and whatever other tunes make the grade for that year on the Radio. ------For my own reasons I went into lounge playing on the piano bar type of environment with a really diverse customer rainbow....Many people young and old would come up to me and ask all kinds of questions, like: who wrote that tune, what year did it come out and/or you brought back memories my date and I enjoyed, and on and on. Bottom line is if you enjoy memories of the past whether or not your from that particular decade, you'll find yourself humming along carefree. You might even ask me a question.+++++++++ This particular volume is one that I finally was able to get online. It has great show tunes in it and don't judge it just by what is in the table of contents because as I went through the pages, titles I thought I didn't know turned out to be a couple of favorites that "I" had tagged wrong. If you've purchased other "Reader's Digest" songbooks; you have to love this one. You will also enjoy the fun some of these titles have to offer.
