5.0 out of 5 stars Treasury of Poetry for Young People
Bought this for my 12-year-old grandson, who enjoys writing poetry and has had one of his poems published. Glanced through it and found it delightfully representative of wonderful poetry, including several of my favorites. Gave it to him for Christmas, and he immediately immersed himself in it, even saying "just a minute" when he was asked if he wanted to open more...

I owned this book briefly and am relying on memory, but since there's only a couple of short reviews here, I wanted to add one also. First, the book is a good size hardcover with lovely illustrations. Very nice to look at, but I did not like the fact that there are very few poems included. This review is from: A Treasury of Poetry for Young People: Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Edgar Allan Poe, Carl Sandberg, Walt Whitman (Hardcover)
Bought this for my 12-year-old grandson, who enjoys writing poetry and has had one of his poems published. Glanced through it and found it delightfully representative of wonderful poetry, including several of my favorites. Gave it to him for Christmas, and he immediately immersed himself in it, even saying "just a minute" when he was asked if he wanted to open more gifts (this from a kid who LOVES to open presents and has NO patience with waiting!). This is a wonderful book. The illustrations are attractive, and definitions of unfamiliar words are sprinkled judiciously (and unobtrusively) throughout.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average book that could have been better, September 19, 2011

I owned this book briefly and am relying on memory, but since there's only a couple of short reviews here, I wanted to add one also. First, the book is a good size hardcover with lovely illustrations. Very nice to look at, but I did not like the fact that there are very few poems included. In each section for each poet, there are only a couple poems and these are in large print. The main focus of the book is the pictures with just a smattering of poetry. It's more of a coffee table type book of poetry. More poems (and poets) would have made this a much better book and why not add more? There are plenty to choose from!
