Polish food is simple and hearty. Most of it remains close to its peasant roots, in a satisfying pork roast stuffed with prunes and walnuts, or thick, potato-based leek soup flavored with caraway seeds. Many dishes share their roots with Russian classics, from Krupnik, the dense mushroom and barley soup that gets intense flavor from dried mushrooms, to Pasha, the stunningly rich pyramid of creamy cheese studded with dried fruits and nuts traditionally served at Easter. Chapters featuring dishes for Easter and Christmas will tempt even non-Polish cooks to bake a Mazurka--buttery, flaky squares spread with chocolate, ground almonds, or other toppings.
This elegant little volume, with its 53 recipes and witty drawings of the good life, will enchant anyone of Polish background. It is also a fine gift for someone interested in learning to make a good selection of popular Polish dishes. --Dana Jacobi

learn to cook Polish and speak Polish, at the same time!,

This review is from: A Treasury of Polish Cuisine: Traditional Recipes in Polish and English (Hippocrene Bilingual Cookbooks) (Hardcover)
"A Treasury of Polish Cuisine" is a good, bilingual, Polish cookbook, with traditional Recipes given in, both, Polish and English.
The recipes are very good, traditional, Polish food. The bilingual nature of the book helps one to learn every day Polish volcabulary. Whether you are a cook looking for a new and different recipe or someone who wants to work at learning the Polish language in a new and different way, this book is for you. Also, this book is for the person studying up to take a trip to Poland. To travel in Poland, a small knowledge of the Polish language is necessary for the best results. The best way to study any language is the 'immersion' technique. Certainly, this book will help in that process.

I bought this book after visiting Poland and trying to learn a little Polish on the side. I like it that the recipes are given in both Polish and English, with a lot of clever drawings accompanying the sections. Especially like the hearty soups, which do remind me of my visit.
