Book Description

September 1981
Rev. E. M. Bounds was overwhelmingly devoted to his beloved Lord. There are few who have lived since the days of the Apostles who have surpassed him in the depths of his marvelous research into the life of prayer. This American clergyman of the twentieth century wrote seven books on prayer, many of which have frequently been unavailable to the general reading public.

Rev. Leonard Ravenhill has done the Church a great service in preparing this compilation of these seven marvelous books:

Power through Prayer

Purpose in Prayer

The Necessity of Prayer

The Essentials of Prayer

The Weapon of Prayer

The Possibilities of Prayer

The Reality of Prayer

In the Foreword, David Otis Fuller says that this book "is worth its weight in diamonds." The compiler encourages you to keep this book at hand, read it often, and practice it always! It is truly A Treasury of Prayer.

About the Author

Leonard Ravenhill was born in 1907 in the city of Leeds, in Yorkshire, England. After his conversion to Christ, he was trained for the ministry at Cliff College. It soon became evident that evangelism was his forte, and he engaged it with both vigor and power. Eventually he became one of England's foremost outdoor evangelists. His meetings in the war years drew traffic jamming crowds in Britain, and great numbers of his converts not only followed the Savior into the Kingdom, but into Christian ministry and the world's mission fields.

In 1939 he married an Irish nurse named Martha. Together they had three sons. Paul and David are ministers, and Philip is a teacher. Leonard went home to be with the Lord in November of 1994.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Faith Filled Book on the Power and Need of Prayer, December 18, 2005
This review is from: Treasury of Prayer (Paperback)
Leonard Ravenhill was a man with a passion for prayer. I had the honour of being able to meet brother Ravenhill and prayed at his home with him and his lovely wife, Martha. There were few writers who had impacted Leonard Ravenhill as had the works of E.M. Bounds. Brother Ravenhill took the combined works on prayer by Bounds and put them together in this wonderful book.

The book itself is hard to find but worth finding. The chapters are edited by Ravenhill from the collected books of Bounds. Ravenhill, being a great writer himself on prayer, was able to take the meat out of each of the books and put them into this work. What a wonder it is! It is one of the greatest challanges to prayer that a disciple of Jesus will read other than the New Testament.

Overall I highly recommmend this book to disciples. Your prayer life may be lacking but when you read this book (no matter how often you pray) you will find a heart that cries to draw near to the Lord (Hebrews 4:14-16).

Prayer is the forgotten language of the present day church. EM Bounds expounds on communicating with God to a level far few will ever pay it's price to seek out. Leonard Ravenhill, the great revival preacher, does a great job in pulling the "meat" of the text from all of EM Bounds books into one great stronghold breaking book.

This is probably one of the greatest books on prayer the Christian church will ever know.
