Exceptional therapist manual for the treatment of obsessions,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Treatment of Obsessions (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: Science and Practice Series) (Paperback)
This outstanding treatment manual provides the experienced or training therapist with a 'cutting edge' theoretical and practical guide to the assessment and treatment of obsessions in OCD. This problem has been relatively neglected and had been difficult to treat, in part due to a lack of knowledge about scientifically based approaches to understading obsessions and also because of much misuse of the term "obsession" in common language. The book is rich with clinical examples of many different kinds of obsessions as well as many helpful tools, questionnaires, forms and techniques that even the most experienced therapists will find useful. Written by one of the world's recognized leaders in the research and treatment of OCD, the book is a must-have for any psychologist or psychiatrist interested in treating this difficult and challenging problem.

Editor's Discription Is Misleading,

This review is from: The Treatment of Obsessions (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: Science and Practice Series) (Paperback)
I recently ordered this book to find out it focuses on "agressive, sexual and blasphemous" obsessions; other obsessions are neglected. People considering ordering this book should be aware of the book's limitations.

Great for patients and therapists,
By Lucy (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Treatment of Obsessions (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: Science and Practice Series) (Paperback)
I have now used this book extensively in my clinical work. Some people are able to use the book as a 'self-help' guide because it is so clearly written. For other people, I use it as a guide for treatment. It is simply the most up-to-date account of the treatment of obsessions available, written by the world's expert.

A comprehensive manual for the treatment of obsessions,
By Michelle Lee (Oxford, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Treatment of Obsessions (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy: Science and Practice Series) (Paperback)
This excellent manual provides a comprehensive guide to the understanding and treatment of obsessions in OCD, and represents a real contribution, both theoretically and practically to an area that has been much neglected in the past. The book provides a good overview of the nature of obsessions, and a first class theoretical account, supported with relevant research and numerous clinical examples. There is also a very useful section on assessment (including questionnaires and semi-structured interviews), which would be really useful for assessing change. The treatment section of the manual is well structured and describes a number of different techniques, in a particularly user-friendly manner, with clear and useful case examples given throughout. The book is extremely well written, and I would highly recommended it for therapists generally, as well as those already treating patients with OCD.
