This volume presents current treatment approaches for offenders with mental disorders in a variety of settings. Separate chapters cover special issues in treatment of sexual offenders, offenders with mental retardation, and juvenile offenders. Throughout, the approaches featured are interdisciplinary and eclectic, incorporating biological and psychological perspectives.
This volume will be of use to mental health practitioners as well as legal professionals in criminal justice and mental health law.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A superb compendium of state-of-the-art clinical, legal, and administrative strategies for dealing with offenders with mental disorders. Comprehensive in coverage, incisive in analysis, and lucidly written, this empirically and theoretically sophisticated work has its feet firmly planted in practical application. Professionals whose work puts them in contact with offenders with mental disorders will find this a 'must-read' book, and one to which they will frequently return." --John Monahan, PhD, Doherty Professor of Law, Professor of Psychology and Legal Medicine, University of Virginia

"It is quite refreshing to see a book about forensic issues in which extremely well-informed mental health professionals are focused on treatment rather than on lawyerly matters. The authors are all well known for their expertise and the book will add greatly to the knowledge base on treatment of individuals with mental disorders in various common forensic settings. The book also highlights the treatment of sexual offenders and offenders with developmental disabilities and juvenile offenders, all under-reported areas." --Joseph Bloom, MD, Oregon Health Sciences University

This review is from: Treatment of Offenders with Mental Disorders (Hardcover)
This book has been very informative regarding treatment for various offenders; juveniles, sex offenders; mentally ill; mentally retarded, etc. Valid research and resources are offered indicating outcomes of success and failures for programs in jails, prisons, and the community. It is quite interesting reading.
