Warm and Convincing,

This review is from: Tree on a Hill (Audio CD)
Peter Rowan is one of those guys who seems to have been around forever. At one time, The Rowan Brothers were supposed to be big pop/rock stars, but things did not quite work out that way. Peter spent some years with Bill Monroe, so his bluegrass credentials are genuine. Peter really does lead out on this CD, so the title is appropriate. He has written some new tunes that sound 100% authentic, and he and his clan produce some really warm and convincing music. The end result is contemporary bluegrass with timeless appeal.

Fine versions of some beautiful traditional songs,

This review is from: Tree on a Hill (Audio CD)
I have rarely heard such a poignantly mournful treatment of Man of Constant Sorrow. All the songs on this album are extraordinary, faithful to the tradition from which they arise, and sound like they just floated up in a morning mist on a summer's day. Lone Pilgrim is a jewel in the dust under your feet. If you like old-timey music, this will be a treasure to your ear.
